Front seal replacement 5.9 cummins
Hi Dale, I'm glad to help! Below is the removal procedure for the front crankshaft seal on your 5.9 cummins engine. Hope this helps and have an awesome day!
REMOVAL
- Disconnect both battery negative cables.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Partially drain engine coolant into container suitable for re-use (Refer to 7 - COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE).
- Lower vehicle.
- Remove radiator upper hose.
- Disconnect coolant recovery bottle from radiator filler neck and lift bottle off of fan shroud.
- Disconnect windshield washer pump supply hose and electrical connections and lift washer bottle off of fan shroud.
- Remove viscous fan/drive assembly. (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL).
- Remove cooling fan shroud and fan assembly from the vehicle.
- Remove the accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL).
- Remove the cooling fan support/hub from the front of the engine.
- Raise the vehicle on hoist.
- Remove the crankshaft damper and speed indicator ring.
- Remove power steering pump.
- Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove the gear cover-to-housing bolts and gently pry the cover away from the housing, taking care not to mar the gasket surfaces. Remove crank seal dust shield with cover.
- Support the cover on a flat work surface with wooden blocks (Removing Seal from Cover), and using a suitable punch and hammer, drive the old seal out of the cover from the back side of the cover to the front side(Removing Seal from Cover).

sounds like you should start by dropping the pan and changing the filter, put cheap fluid in it or reuse the old fluid if its not too bad bring it to a shop and have a transmission flush performed with a good flush machine your valve body is sticking and this should clear things up please rate -jeff
