I would suspect that the solenoid contacts need replacing as they may be burning together. Pull the starter and have an accredited auto electrician bench test it.

if you have auto daytime lights and they don't work then your radio will not work either. trust me on that. you have one lead to 12v source and acc lead that is wired to auto daytime lights which when you open your door radio shuts off.

I had a Ford Freestar do the same thing. If it keeps blinking and the the lever does not come back to neutral then it is the multi-function switch. There is a little piece that is inside made of plastic that catches on the steering wheels internals that shuts it off when the wheel is turned the opposite direction. Sounds like yours is broken and that means a new multi-function switch. you cant repair the switch, you have to replace it unfortunately. if this is your problem I can almost guarantee its result of holding the switch through turning, it makes a clicking noise and you can feel the lever jumping. hope this helps.
