1989 Corvette Head light doors

This is a shot in the dark ... I seem to recall these doors are operated by vacuum. I would be looking at the hoses if I were you. 20 years is a long time for rubber hose my friend. If you don't find anything wrong with the hoses from the door operators back, check the hoses under dash board.

I had a similar problem with heater controls on my 25 + year old vehicle. My trouble was with the hose assembly that attached to the control. I patched that up and my controls operated normally afterward.

You might find a little CRC or WD-40 sprayed on the operators and hinges might help also. Another trick is to spray WD-40 on the hoses looking for leaks. The WD-40 will temporarly plug the leak and let the doors operate. This trick works for manifold and carb (leak) troubles as well.

I hope this helps you ... Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

if the problem is the fan only runs on high no matter were the fan control switch is then this sounds like the blower motor resistor is the problem.

Wat can I do to get better gas milage in my 1989

Make sure the engine is properly tuned. Check tire inflation. Accelerate slowly. Anticipate stops. Probably not what you wanted to hear when your driving a Corvette but there are no magic solutions.

I have a 1989 corvette with greenwood package that

The only part that would come to mind after all of this would be the fuel pump relay. This is located on the fire wall on the drivers side of the car. When that goes bad it does not allow for adequate fuel to cycle through. The other thing would be timing. You need fuel air and spark for the vehicle to fire. After all the test and after replacing the fuel pump relay. I would do a compression and a leak down test. Are you sure that the timing did not jump a gear? You can also look and test the IAC (Idle Air Control) or the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). Also do a test to check fuel pressure. The last Corvette that I worked on personally that had this issue it turned out to be the Fuel Pump Relay. Good luck let me know if you have any further questions.

How do I get replacment

Any hardware store can duplicate keys, lock smith in your area, big box store (the home improvement kind).

Should be pretty simple ... in my area it costs about $2.00 to duplicate a key.

Car starts up for 1 or 2 seconds and dies

This happens when the car requires a key with a chip to keep running. You may have a key without a chip which only allows you access to the interior or the trunk. Check with dealer to see if your car requires a chip key to keep your car running.

Car idles rough and stalls at stop signs

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. There are a few things that can cause this. You need to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak in the engine. Make sure your pcv valve is not clogged and working. You could have a clogged fuel filter or air filter. If you haven't had a tune up in a long time, get it done. At the least, change the spark plugs/coils, wires, coil packs. These are more of the common issues that cause this. If you have a check engine light on, take it to Autozone and have it scanned. They do it for free and it can lead you to your problem. If not, check all of the above parts and eliminate what doesn't need changed. Best regards.

I have a 1989 corvette

Based on your description I suspect the ignition module is the culprit. It is common for failing module to cause this condition.

I suggest that you have the ignition module tested, most Auto Zone stores will test it for free but it has to be removed from the vehicle.

89 VETTE. ALL GAUGES IN DASH NOT WORKING .

Do you know that all this stuff was working when it was parked? Lets assume it was. Most of this stuff works with the key on or in the acc. position. You are going to need something to check for voltage. At least a test light better yet, multimeter. The dash lights however, come off the headlight switch. Start by checking for power at the fuse for the gauges it's marked "inst" for instruments it protects all the gauges including the tach and speedo. With the key on you should have power on both sides of the fuse. The antenna won't come up until you get the radio to come on. If you have power at the fuse, Your going to have to start taking the dash apart to see where the "open" in the circuit. If you have no power at the fuse, it comes from the ignition switch, it's down low on the steering column. ( I hope you're skinny)

As for the brakes, since it's been sitting that long I would be pulling the wheels off and looking for a seized caliper.

If your going to do your on work on this car I recommend investing in a good manual, try to find a factory book on ebay. or Craig's list.

This is a way cool car, have fun with it!!!
