"gear grinding" noise on acceleration, 2 wheel high only
This sounds like the famous problem that those ten bolts give, remove the rear differential cover and inspect the oil for metal debris, it's more than likely to be the carrier bearings wornout making the ring and pinion offmesh causing the grinding and will eventually break. Hope this helps
I have a 1996 Chevy silverado that will not start
In the first part of your post, are you saying, you have to jump starter relay in order to get it to start? I looked at info for 96 c1500, 5.0L engine. If I understand you correctly, check the control side of relay, left side in the diagram. It needs voltage and ground both. Ground is a chassis ground, voltage comes from crank position of ignition switch and is wired through the clutch or neutral switch, depending on the tranny.
Afer putting transmission in my 1996 chevy pickup truck it wont start
check your connections on the starter solenoid, the wires on the solenoid if they become loose will cause this problem and you will have juice to the other components. also you probrably unhooked the battery before installing the trans. so recheck the connections on the battery for a proper ground and positive hookup, clean these connection to be sure.
How to chck a fuel pump
check 12V at pump terminal when on/cranking
hear/feel pump operation (if external to tank)
if low pressure (carby) disconnect fuel line and observe flow. If high pressure (FI) connect fuel pressure guage and observe pressure. Check fuel filter while doing all this. Filters are the source of many problems that start people messing with fuel pumps.
