CHEVY S-10 TAIL LIGHTS PROBLEM RESOLVED...It seems Chevy engineered a ground shorting clip located under the left rear bumper area. It looks like a connector for trailer wiring harness, but in actuallity is a metal shorting clip which ties 5 wires together. They are all the ground wires for the tail lights. Then one single small wire runs to ground completeing the circuit. Problem is that this one wire is not tough enough to be a strain relief for the grounding plug and over time the ground wire wears, leaving intermittent lighting problems. FIX IS TO SPLICE THE GROUND WIRE INTO ONE OF THE FIVE OTHER WIRES AND USE PLASTIC TY WRAP FOR STRAIN RELIEF. This fixes no tail lights, intermittent rear signals, and other significant problems. I just got done making this same repair on a 2000 s-10 and everything works fine. Since it is the strain on the single ground wire connected to the connector that leads to failure, it is best to tie a new ground or clip the ground wire coming out of the plug and resplice it into one of the other five wires. Does not matter which one since electrically it makes no difference; they are all gound wires. BUT only one wire completes the connection and that is the problem. Really good engineering Chevy! The location is under left rear of bed in wiring harness right before the split. The connector is blue or green. Take the cover off to see the metal shorting clip. Also note the ground wire coming out of the plug/connector and runs about 8 inches to frame. If this is not hooked up you will have tail light issues. You have to pull the engine loose because it's in between the transmission & engine.

The wire connects to the instrument panel lighting.

Sounds more like your motor is pressurised causing oil to flow out the easiest orifice. Put a compression test on cylinders if OK check valve stem seals for hardness. But I would say you have blow by on rings.

Have you checked the thing under the brake pedal? I can't recall what it is, a regulator or tensioner or something?

Hi. I would try changing the fuel filter. If its partially plugged up you could be starving for gas and that can make your emmission sensors give bad readings. Cant gurentee it, but it would be a place to start.

Look for chaffed wires. A bad ground will not let the bulb work at all. Look closely at the wires on the reverse light. Follow them back to where they join the harness checking for pinch points or bare wires.

the little contact could have bent and is sitting on the ring, you may have to bend it so it only makes contact when you push on the horn pad. things should fit easily if the force it things can get bent out of their original shape and cause issues.

Check the fuel system pressure - sounds like the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. As you increase speed the engine requires more gas and it sounds like it's starting to starve at 50+.

There is a pick up coil in the distributor. And an ignition module by the throttle body. The is also a coil. best to check power and ground to them before replacing good parts.

Wires to the solenoid are generally smaller yes. Typically from ignition switch to solenoid is purple.

Possible brake fluid level warning sensor problem in the master cylinder. Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor in the master cylinder. If the light goes out, suspect the sensor. If the light continues to illuminate dimly, suspect a short to power in the harness on that circuit. Further diagnostics will be required to locate the problem
