I think the TD42 uses a mechanical fuel pump. If there is any wires on the pump it will be for either a fuel shut off switch or a sensor of some kind for the fuel management system.

Change thermostat. Put antifreeze in the system, it is better for not boiling because it is Glycol. Maybe blocked passages so give it all a flush. Maybe failing water pump. If the head gasket has not been damaged, remove the plugs and spin the engine over on the starter motor for 20 Seconds. Refit the plugs and that is that. If still misfiring, it could have engine damage from a hydrolock episode.
