2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3. The lifters were replaced but failed in minutes. Now smokes with rocker tick.
the sm shows how to prime HLA
they can not just be put in dry.
HLA = hydraulic lash adjusters , aka lifters but never tappets.
not talking rockers.
Active Fuel Management (AFM)
it shuts down valves this AFM and to 4 cylinders
so defeats rock+HLA. to do that and is complex.
smoking is just oil that fell from valve cover pulled and oil lands on the exhaust manifold, etc.
you did not say smokes in the engine bay or at rear of car.
changing and HLA, does not allow oil to fall past head valves ever.
unless valve seals are gone or cracked in half, but what will be, will be.
the sad story is here, nothing simple about any of this and expensive to fix
see the horrors there of owning complex (VDE,variable displacement engines now and in the past, all FED mandated junk)

- The computer sends a signal to the LOMA.
- The LOMA solenoids open.
- Oil flows to the special lifters through the AFM towers.
- This oil collapses the plunger inside the lifter.
- The collapsed lifters will not engage the pushrods and both valves remain closed.
I started my 1999 chevy silverado 5.3 liter this
sounds like you have a coolant leak, if coolant is low it will cause both of your symtoms as to where it is coming from, there are many places but common ones are hoses/clamps, water pump or radiator.
Chevy silverado power steering
The power steering pump shaft may have broken inside the pump. I have seen this happen on a these trucks. Have your pump checked.
2000 chevy silverado step side turn lights speeds up when you apply the brakes
It's a really simple fix. Just take the plastic of around the column and the will be an orange and a white wire that runs to the button on the shifter. One of those wires are probably broken. Very common problem on these trucks. You can solder and heat shrink it or use a butconnector. Doesn't take too long at all. Hope this helps. It's how I've fixed the last five anyway. I actually added some extra wire and rerouted it in the column plastic. The tilt wheel seems to cut it so it's just bad location on GM trucks behalf
The driver side only blows
Yes it is most likely a vacuum actuator there are more then one . They open and close little doors in the ducts to deriect air flow inside the ducts . They are not easy to get at in most cases however you should look at all vacuum lines going to and near the unit its controlled by engine vacuum . exhust all other opptions first before takeing the dash out . The problem could also be electrical check the control switches make sure the switch is not bad on one side . Spend some time looking and thinking before you start riping things apart. Good luck with it
5.3 L Missing and Rough Idle Intermittently
i have a 2001 chevy z-71 5.3L. I keep getting a random/multiple misfire code for cylinder 1 . I have replaced plugs, wires, coil pack(only on #1 cylinder)., and fuel pump. I still keep getting the cylinder 1 misfire code. I put truck on a scanner and watched the cylinders. # 1 misfires at idle but quickly stops misfiring at around 1000 rpms. you can here the engine miss at idle but truck runs great on road . anyone else ever had this problem?
Vibration in the steering wheel on a 4wd truck
I just had the same issue with a 1999 2500HD and the vibration got worse above 50 mph. Problem was resolved with a new driveshaft. Old one (aluminum) was badly out of true and the problem didn't really occur until I had the U joints changed - then bent driveshaft vibration was noticeable. New driveshaft resolved issue.
