The nylon coupling is either cracked or missing. A flat key extends from the motor shaft and locks into the extension like a paddle in order to move the blades. If you can not find the insert, this style of interlocking is common mechanical design. There are sometimes a spring clip the paddle interlocks with. The nylon insert locks into the blade rod mechanism. I suppose the nylon insert is designed as a replacement part rather than replace the entire blade extension

Perhaps your engine needs and oil change Donald :>D It is generally food that has leaked through the bottom seals, or it is grease. Take it apart, clean and lubricate. The screws are normally hidden under the feet. Or, treat yourself to a new one and give the old one to Goodwill.

This is not really the solution it is just a better description of the problem that I am also having. This is a great blender however the part where the cup blades conect to the motor is made of plastic. So what has happened here is that the motor is fine, the cup is fine only the plastic part that makes the motor turn the blades has worn down therefore rendering the blender useless. I would like to know where I could get this small part to change on my blender!!!
