I've included a link to the installation instructions for the DL 2700 lock, which is a PDF file requiring Adobe Reader or similar program be installed to open the PDF:

http://napcosecurity.com/download/DL2700_WI835_INST.pdf

Scrolling down to page 8 of the instructions (Troubleshooting) indicates that if the lever will not fully retract, then the lock is either not full engaged with the latch or is misaligned, or that the lock is not centered on the door.

takes you to the tech support page, where you can find more documentation or contact their Customer Support directly.

Good luck!

Somehow we disarmed our lock

It sounds like you somehow activated the hold open feature of this lock. After following the advice already suggested did the lock reset itself and go back to the function you expected?

How to uninstall a Trilogy push button door lock if the door is closed and you are on the locked side

If you know the mater code you can use it to open the door. If you have no access then your are left with tearing the locks off the door. You can take a large drill bit made for metal drilling & drill the core out. The lock should come off then.

Remove the lock from one door if I can't access the inside of the door

There should be a manual key override just for situations like this. You will not be able to uninstall the lock from the outside. That would defeat the purpose of having a lock at all. You have to be able to gain access to the backside of the lock. The side that would have the batteries.
