You need to use the same one or one that is compatible with the gears in the back. I.e. a Shimano shifter will move your derailer a slightly different distance than a SRAM or campi shifter. You should talk to you local bike shop for more advice

Missing? Like fell off - or was never there? Do some search engine stuff and find out what that part is called. Maybe 'crank''? Then ask someone at a Local Bike Shop to fix you up. No one sells just one crank.

Clearly the cassette/freehub isn't 'freewheeling'. Get it lubed at a Bike Shop unless you want to buy all the special tools, come up to speed knowledge-wise and DIY.

It may actually be cheaper to buy a whole new wheel.

I imagine there are other maintenance issues with the bike.

Search engines will find answers and instructions.

You don't give any specs for your particular crank but if you Google it you will probably find an entire crankset for less than a shop would charge you to chicken wire yours, if indeed they would even consider it. Left-hand thread complicates it.

For example...

Or look on eBay.

I cannot get my pads

  • If your brakes are squealing a bit then you need to toe the the pads in a bit. Basically the trailing end of the pad needs to touch the rim when barely when light pressure is applied. You want your pads to be adjusted like an inverted V or sorts. Like this ^ . You need to adjust and re tighten the brake pad holder. Re-adjust the pads and they will be tight but will not squeal.

Shimano Deore LX right hand rear shifter

HERE is Shimano's exploded-view diagram of the shifters, but it really only gives you a ballpark idea of the assembly. You will have to piece the rest together from memory, i suppose. Sorry, i could not find more information for you.

Hope this helps a little,

Does not want to shift

Check your cable tension, and your limit screw settings. If that doesn't fix the problem, take into your local bike shop, they will be able to diagnose and provide a solution.

They just might be, depending on the brand and pedigree of the crankset. Lower-end bikes usually have rivetted, stamped or even single-piece cranksets, so they're not designed to be replaced individually.

Check the limit screws. It is likely that the limit screw is adjusted to keep the movement limited to the first two chainrings. If that is not the problem, alignment or damage may be the source.
