For my 20 year old Moen 1222, I found the outer O-ring supplied with the OEM part was slightly too large to overcome the beveled brass edge near where the key fits. I reused the old, failed part's O-ring and it went in fine. If you do this method, you should check for leaks prior to restoring. I find Moen is not my preferred supplier of choice for plumbing fixtures.

Question moved from Vacuums. If the pictures here are correct, there are 'variations' to the 1225 cartridge. No, it doesn't sound as though yours if fitted correctly. Two possible options i can think of. 1) the hot water valve at the hot water tank is partially closed. look for a lever that can be opened fully. the valve could have become faulty. 2) a copper line from the tank to the faucet might be bent somewhere in the middle

Try heating the handle with a torch.

The Cartridge probably isn't in all the way. Pushing it in by hand doesn't always seat it properly.

Make sure the clear plastic is centered in the gap where you push the clip in, then a few gentle taps with the wrench, followed by pushing around the edges (the black part) with a flat-blade screwdriver gets it all the way in.

If the cartridge is aligned and seated right, the clip should slide right in. If you have to force it, the cartridge is not in right.

When the Moen faucet was installed, they included a small sticker with the make and model of it for obtaining spares. You stick that somewhere under your sink like mine is :>) If you take out the cartridge and take it to home Depot or Lowes, that keep all the spares. There is no screw here. Insert a small flat screwdriver -- small enough to fit fully in the hole -- and pivit it up, so that the tip presses toward the wall. This should easily release the locking tab.
