We figured this one out today, after pounding, twisting, sliding, gerunding, etc.

It will not slide backward (as a safety mechanism, of course) unless your latches (the ones that connect / clamp onto the car) are completely loose. That means, that looking at the rack from the end, you'll see this oblong deal that you'll use to tighten the rack to a car. As you turn it clockwise the rack will tighten, right?

Ok. Just make sure that that guy is as loose as he gets, and your piece will slide back just fine.

I would check the ignition timing first.

6 months to a year after they are posted. not always but a lot lately !!

I don't definitely know but taking a guess, assuming the fuel pump switches off after a while - fuel is a valuable part of the cooling of the fuel injection system and it could be the fuel pump keeps running to circulate fuel and carry away some of the heat that initially increases after switching off and could otherwise damage sensitive components.

It's pretty basic and old school on all 550's and 380's unplug the back of the ignition ( it will now start without the key using the pull cord) remove the rubber boot from the ignition and unscrew the nut holding the ignition. Don't know why it needs replacement they pretty much never fail my 09 gtx 550 has over 12k and no problem except freezing occasionally.

Make sure it is not stuck. Spray some cleaner into the throttle. Make sure the cable is returning all the way.

your carbs are out of tune

Could be a short developing in the electronics that runs the motor and is changing the timing.

Sounds like it was starving for fuel. First thing to do is check your fuel pump pressure with a gauge. Try sprayinf a little starting fluid into the throttle body to see if it will start. If it does, then you know its a fuel problem.
