Never heard of this maker before Gwen, seems South African.
All televisions need a remote, otherwise you can only do simple tasks. Copy remotes are readily available which are NOT Universal Remotes.

All sets have manual controls and they are hidden under the lower right front or on the angled rear panel. This 32" AIM says they are lower right edge, On, Off, Channel UP & Down, Volume Up & Down, plus Menu and Enter. Look about a third of the way down the document.

Use the original system discs and do an Over the Top reinstall.
Or SFC (System File Checker.)
The battery icon will be in Settings somewhere.

It depends where the signal is coming from. You have to Select the Source of the data. When you select that Source, you will see the channels.

There are many that work well but it will depend on your environmental conditions. Proximity to the wall, windows, etc.
A good one to consider is the RCA ANT3ME1.
Most modern tv remotes are not normally designed to be repaired. You will possibly need to replace it. there are plenty of cheaper after market version that will do the job just as well. Your other option, and yes I know this is a silly answer, when you want to mute the TV is to simply press the volume down button to zero then turn it back up when you want sound.
Sorry you're having problems. Offhand the 8 blink code on a Pioneer Plasma translates to an internal communication failure in the TV and generally requires repairs.
However it's worth it to try a hard reset, as sometimes the processor in the TV can simply have locked up.
The first thing you would try, is disconnect the set from power, then press and hold the power button on the TV itself (not the remote), for 10 seconds and release. Then plug the set back in, and also check that the power cord is connected tight at the TV as well. Press power once, and see if the set powers up normally.
Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!
