I will assume it's a spinning reel, and then you may have several methods. You can tie a slipping knot on the line, open the pickup, slip your knot on the reel spool, tighten it, and then reel in. A more efficient way may be to install your reel on the rod, first pass your line through the first guide, and then do the same things. Tie a knot on the spool, with the pickup open, and reel in. Now when you reel in, I can suggest you to do this in a bucket of freshwater, as it will tighten your line with no efforts, and the line spool will not jump all over the place.

Don't have one of those But normally what you do is unscrew the tension adjustment all the way and the side panel will come off and the spool will slide out the side.
Open the bail ( that round curved wire thated around the reel ). Flip the bail up and there should be your line. The line goes under the bail until you open the bail to cast.
Unscrew the top half of the reel cover, next there will be a small nut on a center bolt, remove that nut , lift that rou?d plate and there's your spool.
I don't think there is an ajustment on the bail...... they are normally spring operated, you can adjust or replace the spring to get the bail to close Easter or not as easy. It's best to always open and close the bail by hand anyways. This puts less wear on your overall reel.
Although the earliest two extant U.S. patents for reels described freespool clutches in the mid-1850s, and many more refined clutches were invented before 1900, the vast majority of baitcasting reels were not equipped with such clutches until after World War II. Reels with clutches were available long before that, but in most casting reels, the spool remained connected to the handle through the gear train during the cast. By 1900, inventors had come up with many different ways of breaking that connection by separating the gears, by separating the gears from the spool, etc. But most reels weren't made with what were often fairly complicated devices.
The first automatic clutches were invented in the early 1890s. These freed the spool as soon as the angler stopped cranking the reel.

The earliest known illustration of what is clearly a fishing reel is a Chinese painting from 1195 A.D. Two engravings of reels appeared in a Chinese book published within the next 30 years. The spoked Chinese reels appear to be similar to the Indiana reels mentioned in the glossary.
There also is an illustration of what is probably a Fishing reel on a silver plate owned by the J. Paul Getty Museum. The plate, recovered from a Mediterranean shipwreck, is thought to have been the work of a 400-700 A.D. Byzantine artisan, but its date of origin has not been established with certainty. (F. Buller, The American Fly Fisher, Vol. 23, pg. 14, 1997)

Okuma Magda Pro Line Counter Fantantic TROLLING Reel. If you are a serious trolley this is a great great real. The drag is quick in setting, strong and a little sensitive as the drag wheel is all of 3 to 4 turns. But the fact it rotates with the crank I have yet to lose drag setting.
With that it's easy to turn to much in and lose fish because of it. Practice makes perfect. Counter is accurate as long as you have a full real. Mine's at 300ft and 4ft measured with a tape measure shows 5ft on the guage. No big deal as it holds way more line than this. A little math persay and all good. Will be buying my dad one for father's day and probley another one for me as well. Remember this reel was not deigned for true casting like a casting reel is. Trolling is the only reason I have this reel.
I purchased a Daiwa BG Saltwater BG8000, only have been able to used it once. Landed three Yellow Tail 30,50 and 72 lbs. with no problem, great reel. Only issue was getting used to the bell arm being manual, other than that I recommend this reel. Daiwa BG Reel:SmoothHard and tough anodized bodyStrong and stable pulling abilityA beauty to look at
