My theory is that you have the wrong type of card or the card is much too big. This is an old phone and card sizes and speed formats have jumped ahead of the hardware. Sometimes card have to be formatted via settings in the device. It will be either FAT or FAT32. Nothing tells you what it inside it. The short is likely to be in the primary windings of the transformer or if an electronic transformer the components that do it.
