and there is the problem. Normal Duracell AA batteries are 1.5 volts. Rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts. It is in the very small print, I just checked on an Ever Ready Recharge. So it takes 4 x AA batteries at 1.5 volts, so 6 volts. Your rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts x 4, so that is 4.8 volts. You are down 1.2 volts. The LED circuitry can't handle that loss.

about 1.2 volts (1.5 volts - fully charged, 1.25 volts - 50% charged, 1.0 volts - almost fully discharged). But a NiMH (or NiCd) battery stays at about 1.2 volts until it is nearly completely discharged. This makes it almost impossible to know the amount of capacity left based on its voltage alone.

It would help if you would specify the camera.
First thing that comes to mind is if your camera has an Exposure Compensator; many people forget that they have adjusted the Exposure, and do not return it to 0 (zero) after they have finished their shoot. Then the next time they start taking photos again their previous adjustment is still in effect.
Please specify exactly what camera you are using, so I can help
you resolve your problem.

Most have a safety device as to not allow the batteries to be damaged or have their life span shortened from overcharging, you should be fine. Give us a manufacturer & model name/number and we can get a more precise answer!
