Baldor Grinders - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
I have a Buffalo B-10CB(CH)
You could connect the wires of the switch together inside and bypass the switch. Then I would connect in the power cable a switch rated for 1 hp. You can use surface mount electrical box, with two cable connectors (one for the cable going into the grinder, the other for the cable going to the male cord end of the cable. Install a 120 volt switch inside the box (similar to the light switch in the wall). Make sure that the switch is rated for 1 hp. I would install the switch under the bench, under the grinder.

What type and size capacitor goes on a Baldor 1/3 HP bench grinder
Much would depend on whether it is a start capacitor or a start/run capacitor.
If there is a switch on the end of the rotor operated by centrifugal weights it will be a start capacitor only but if there is no centrifugal switch the capacitor will need to do double-duty and the value could be critical.
Contacting a dealer or the manufacturer would be favourite but a motor specialist might be able to make a recommendation. Guessing isn't really an option and the working voltage of the capacitor is equally important. Most generic capacitors are rated in dc volts and for them to be safe used on ac mains the working voltage must be considerably higher than the rms value of the ac mains. It is best to use only capacitors rated for ac mains.
You will probably find the capacitor as a spare part from a dealer will be prohibitively expensive but once the value has been discovered and if possible the manufacturer, part number and so forth, great savings can be made by sourcing direct from the capacitor manufacturer.
I recently paid less than £5 plus carriage plus VAT for a capacitor the machine manufacturer wanted more then £60 for.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Inside your grinder either the stationary switch or the rotating assembly that actuates the stationary switch has failed.
Download this pdf file:
http://www.baldor.com/pdf/literature/CA506_0806_WEB.pdf Then go to page 9
The rotating assembly is this part number: (most common failure)
34RS2060SP
You must remove the end plate / cap to change this part.
The statonary switch rarely fails unless the rotating assembly damaged the contacts when the rotating assemble failed. When the rotating assembly fails you often find a spring and flyweight loose inside the grinder during disassembly. Should your stationary switch have failed try and get a number off of it so you can get the right switch. Otherwise you have to use NEMA code / Body type numbers.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
I have an old Craftsman
this is a "Split-Phase"motor it uses only a run capacitor and a typical capacitance rated MFD rating will be between 80 and 290 MFD, go to www. grainger..com and they will have your part, and even if its an older unit and the model/serial/number is available take it with you & they will have a replacement capacitor available in the correct size/dimension/mfd/etc
What is the use of the relay in the motor
is for safetyreasons.
when it is running when you pull the plug out, without a relais it starts running when you putt plug in.
so the on switch triggers the relais and the off switch brakes the takeovercontact.
very oft the relais are of bad quality .
for private use it is not ness.
How to wire a 3 phace 5 hp baldor motor
the neutral or white is not used. if the fourth wire is a ground then it goes to the motor frame. if it is a dual voltage motor then here is the wiring: for 240 volt 3 phase connect 4-5-6 together and tape, 3-9 goes on L1, 2-8 together goes on L2, 1-7 together goes on L3. To reverse direction swap any two line wires. For 480 volts 3 phase: L1 goes on T1, L2 goes on T2, L3 goes on T3. Connect together T6-T9 and tape, connect T5-T8 and tape, connect T4-T7 and tape. again to reverse direction swap two line wires.
Price for used Grizzly G1550 metal lathe
depends on condition and what comes with it. generally starts at $500 in good shape and up to 850 if excellent with many extras (chucks, rests, knurling attach, faceplates, etc) Also, check for accuracy...

Un plugged the wires from the switch and do not
Mmmm... that's a little more complicated. If you have a continuity / resistance meter, we can noodle it out, though.
First, are the two white wires the ONLY wires coming from the motor? I suspect they are - that's not in conformance with any accepted color code, but it'll work. For the rest of this, I'll assume that the two white wires are the only ones from the motor.
You'll need to meter the switch itself, with no wires connected to it. In the OFF position, you shouldn't find continuity between any of the four switch contacts. In the ON position, you should find continuity between two pairs of contacts.
The black wire from the power cord should go to ONE of the two switch contacts in a pair that have continuity with the switch turned ON. One (either) of the white wires from the motor should go to the other switch contact IN THAT PAIR.
That leaves you with one more pair that has continuity with the switch turned ON. The white wire from the power cord goes to one of those, and the second white wire from the motor goes to the other one.
When you have it all wired up, plug it in & turn it on. If it's not right, it should immediately pop your circuit breaker. If it IS right, it should run fine.
If it pops your circuit breaker, open it back up and swap one wire from the power cord and one wire from the motor.
