Welcome to Fixya. The problem that you have is that it either the backlight or the lcd of the phone is bad. This is not a quick fix you need to have it check by a professional so that the part that is bad will be replaced.

You more than likely have one or both batteries DOA. Switch them out with OTC rechargeables.

Good question but no 'make model (what it is). Base units have an antenna, make sure it is extended. Make sure the batteries in the satellite hand sets are good as they send out the signal to the base unit to be 'in range'. Not sure about the PIN request, refer to the manual. They are all online.
