Error 300 , problems printing

Hi,
I'm hoping you can help me out with the problem I'm having printing off my MP160.
I'm getting this message when I try to print :
Error number : 300.  The printer does not respond. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered-on, and properly connected to your computer.

The on/off lamp in the corner is on and the computer seems to be properly connected from the back port of the printer to the USB port on my Mac.
So what else could it be?
I've been able to use this printer before without any problems, now I'm suddenly unable to print!
Please help if you can!
Thank you!
Mark

This problem drove me nuts for an entire day - neither my Mac nor my Windows machine would print after resetting the ink levels using MPTools. I kept trying things until, as a last resort, I decided to reinstall the drivers (which did not seem to me like it would do anything as the printer was working fine before in the two machines with the existing drivers) Voila, that fixed it. I had to reinstall the OS X and the Windows drivers. In the Windows side I had to delete the existing printer drivers first, then reboot. On reboot Windows discovered the printer and reinstalled the driver. It started working again.

It may be that driver re-installation clear certain caches in memory - only Canon knows.

Next time I am getting an HP printer.

According to my list error E 300 means servicing required. how much that would be is anyone's guess.

Error 5100 in Canon MP160

Hi You can Try

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Have changed Ink Black and Colour... Stil getting error Message.

Make sure the tape covering the hole on the bottom of the black cartridge is removed. and then go into the printers folder and right click on your printer icon and go into the properties of that printer and there should be something in there to tell it that you changed cartridges and you can also print a test page as well.

Paper jam

Hi divvy123, this is as follows.

E23 Paper feed error.
You may have to look very carefully for paper still in the printer where it feeds.
Also, the paper will press on a switch to tell the printer that there is paper present.
Another thing to check would be paper alignment.
Please let me know if this helps.
If not I will help you get an answer.

Waste tank absorber is almost full ~ message

I've taken this from my manual.
This error message indicates that the ink absorber is nearly full.
The machine has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used
during FINE Cartridge cleaning, for example.
You can continue printing by selecting Continue*1
on the display on your camera.
However, because printing is disabled once
the ink absorber becomes completely full
and until the ink absorber is replaced, you
are recommended to contact a Canon
service representative as early as possible.
*1 To resume printing, you can press
[OK] (MP180) / [Black] or [Color] (MP160) on
the machine instead of selecting [Continue].
