This equation doesn't have whole number factors so you have to solve it by completing the square or using the quadratic equation. I used the quadratic equation and got the following answers.

[3 + sqrt(209)]/10 and [3 - sqrt(209)]/10

I hope this helps you out.

Im trying to solve the equation 5x=10-3x

5x (-3x) = 2x -3x - -3x = 0
The equation then becomes 2x=10 2x/2 = x and 10/2 =5
then x=5. does it work 5x5=10+3*5 YES

What is rational expression of (22x +11) (10x2 +5x)

I assume the 10x2 means 10 squared. (I will show it as 10x**2)
(22x+11)(10x**2+5x) factors into"
11(2x+1)*5(2x**2+1x)
=55(2x+1)(2x**2+1x)
=(55x)(2x+1)(2x+1)
Multiplied out, it becomes 55x(4x**2+4x+1)
= 220x**3 + 220x**2 + 55x

Solve for x: x exponent 2 +5x-14=0

All you need to do is factor the 14 and you get 7, 2. Luckily 7-2=5.
So X**2+5X-14=0 becomes
(X+7)*(X-2)=0
So (X+7) or (X-2) can be 0

X can be -7 or 2

I hope that makes sense!!!

Can you help me with this probelm? 5x(-5-3)+4x-5-10

In the absence of any specific instructions, the only thing you can do to this expression is to make it more compact by combining like terms. I assume that X stands for some variable
Thus
5X(-5-3)+4X-5-10=(-8)(5X)+4X-15=-40X+4X-15=-36X-15=-3(12X+5)

-3(x-5)= 2(X-5)

-3x + 15 = 2x -10

-3x -2x = -10 -15

-5x = -25

x = -25/-5

x = 5

Write each quadratic equation in standard form. . identify the values of a,b,and c. . ...

  • Solve (x + 2)(x + 3) = 12.
    It is very common for students to see this type of problem, and say:
      "Cool! It's already factored! So I'll set the factors equal to 12 and
      solve to get x = 10 and x = 9. That was easy!"

    Yeah, it was easy; it was also (warning!) wrong. Besides the fact that (10 + 2)(9 + 3) does not equal 12, you should never forget that you must have "(quadratic) equals (zero)" before you can solve.
    So, tempting though it may be, I cannot set each of the factors above equal to the other side of the equation and "solve". Instead, I first have to multiply out and simplify the left-hand side, then subtract the 12 over to the left-hand side, and re-factor. Only then can I solve.
      (x + 2)(x + 3) = 12
      x2 + 5x + 6 = 12
      x2 + 5x - 6 = 0
      (x + 6)(x - 1) = 0
      x + 6 = 0 or x - 1 = 0
      x = -6 or x = 1
    Then the solution to (x + 2)(x + 3) = 12 is x = -6, 1

I need assistance understanding this algebra equation and the steps to solve it. 7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

this is a simple algebraic equation in which we have to calculate the value of 'x' using simple operations

7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

step 1(pen the brackets) 7+9-5x=10-5x
step 2(add 7 and 9) 16-5x=10-5x

now as 5x gets cancelled both the sides of the equal sign therefore no solution of this algebraic equation exist.

How do I solve x and y in the following equations? 5x+3y=6 2x-4y=5 Thank you

You can solve it with following method.

5x+3y=6 2x-4y=5
So 5x=6-3y so 2[(6-3y)/5]-4y=5
So x=(6-3y)/5 so 12-6y-20y=25
so -26y=25-12
so -26y=13
so y= -(1/2)
2x-4y=5
so 2x=5+4y
so 2x=5+4(-1/2)
so 2x=(10-4)/2
so 2x=6/4
so x =3/2

The value of x=3/2 and value of y= -1/2

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Report a bug

the exact equation is
15x^2 - 21x - 18
=3(5x^2 - 7x - 6)
=3{5x^2 -(10-3)x -6 }
=3{5x^2 - 10x + 3x -6}
=3{5x(x - 2) + 3(x-2)}
=3(x-2)(5x+3) these are the factors
