I had a drive failure on my dual drive XPS 410 desktop. I have replaced both 320 Gb Western Digital SATA drives with two 500 Gb Western Digital SATA drives. Do I load the operating system on both drives? And how do I set the drives up as RAID drives?

You only load the operating system on 1 drive and you can set the drive as RAID but it's not required or needed.

What jumpers are for slave Western Digital WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS - hard drive - 320 GB - SATA-300 SATA

SATA drives don't need jumpers. Just install the drive and the computer will assign a drive letter.

I need firmware for Western Digital WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS - hard drive - 320 GB - SATA-300 SATA

If you are troubleshooting a system or OS problem, you should not consider firmware updates until after exploring more typical troubleshooting steps like file system error checking and anti-virus scanning.

try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to fix any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive this should schedule the task on restart then defragment your hard drive

After a year, this WD50000AAKS just stop working and cannot find in BIOS. Stay away from this Western Digital SATA drive ****.

the problem is the controler og the drive wich is:
Marvell, 88i6745-TFJ1, internal EEPROM: - this chip is used in Western Digital's Tornado family, eg WD5000AAKS-xxTMA0, WD5000AAKS-xxYGA0, WD3200AAJS. - it has a common failure mode that mimics head/media faults, eg clicking, spin-down.found it here: http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HDD_ICs.txt

Power cord replacement needed

Is the product still under warranty? You can try http://support.wdc.com/warranty/index_end.asp?lang=en which is the Western Digital Warranty Support pages.

HOW TO CHANGE 320GB SATA HDD TO 500GB SATA

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.

320 wd external hard drive

It could be a faulty power adapter, or the control board inside the caddy is gone.
If you have the warranty booklet contact Western Digital , they should register your product and validate the guaranty.
If not go back to the shop the same if you pay with credit card for example, they can track your purchase.

If you do not get a replacement, well the most expensive part of your device is the Hard disk, and if you are lucky, and dont keep turning it on and off it should still be ok.
In this case buy a replacement caddy enclosure for your hard drive, they start from $10. Buy a good one for $25.
There are two kinds, pata and sata, I think yours is sata, check it out.
