Question about Elna 1010

1 Answer

My sewing machine was working fine then "clattering "noises from the bobbin area, the needle quit catching the bobbin thread. I did the following: took apart the bobbin mechanism, replaced the bobbin, replaced the needlw and re-treaded. Still the needle does not catch the bobbin thread. Any suggestions?

increase the needle thread tension up a bit as it is too loose to pull the bobbin thread up properly

My brother RL 417 makes a clattering noise when I start sewing and swallows the fabric

try a new needle--one that is for the fabric being sewed
clean under the needle plate and in the bobbin area for lint
rethread the machine top and bobbin
if the bobbin is top loading make sure the bobbin is inserted into the bobbin case correctly
if the bobbin is side or front loading then also make sure the bobbin case is inserted into the machine correctly
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over wound
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged

have you tried changing the needle?
is the needle in backwards?
is the needle inserted all the way into the needle holder?
clean under needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or loose thread

When the needle goes down into the bobin area below, it catches on the "round about", so the whole point is that it misses the thread, and doesn't catch it, what can i do to fix this??

It sounds like your problem is as simple as either a bent needle or a bobbin casing that is inserted improperly. First, change your needle being mindful of the type of fabric (and thread) you are using (e.g. Size 11 ballpoint for a light knit or a size 18 jeans needle for denim). Make sure that the bobbin casing is set in correctly, and that the bobbin goes in the correct way. (i.e. Counter-clockwise for a drop-in style bobbin). This should solve your issue. Happy sewing!

I have a brother pe 770 and the bobbin will not catch the thread. The thread will wrapped and tangled up around the bobbin case and bobbin, but will not catch the bobbin at all. I chcked the needle, it is...

You need to sew the first stitch slowly. Lower the needle by hand and take up carefully. Pull the needle thread up and the bobbin thread should be caught in the formed loop and come with it. Pull them both to the back of the machine and sew.

Out of nowhere, after working fine for weeks, the bobbin thread started breaking, and then stopped "wrapping" properly around the outside of the bobbin while I sewed. It keeps jamming to where I...

Change needle
Clean under needle plate where feed dogs are for lint
Clean bobbin area for lint or loose threads
Rethread machine top thread make sure to get every thread guide
& bobbin is threaded correctly & inserted in the bobbin case or shuttle correctly
Check tension 3 or 4 is usually good

after you try all this & it keeps jamming then it may need to be serviced

Won't catch bobbin thread

In order to see whether or not my euro-pro 9110 had a timing issue, the service rep had me change out the needle (making sure I was using anything but a Singer brand needle--they do not work in these machines). I re-threaded the needle, took out the bobbin casing and the plastic ring encasing the bobbin, then lowered the needle to see if the hook on the metal ring holding the bobbin actually catches the thread on its own. If it doesn't catch, it's a timing issue and needs repair. They can walk you through this process of troubleshooting and set up repair if need. Brother 3022 Mechanical Problem

Make sure your needle is in correctly. Check your threading again. If that does not work, remove throat plate, install new needle, turn hand wheel until needle is at its lowest position and observe if the hook is exactly behind the eye of the needle. If that is correct then you do not have threaded correctly. If it is not then the machine needs to be re-timed.
