During operation of the TI-Nspire handheld it may be necessary to reset the device. Circumstances which may require a reset include; keys not responding, device will not turn on or a garbled display. To reset the device:
• Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire with ClickPad, TI-Nspire with TouchPad, and TI-Nspire CAS with Touchpad) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS with ClickPad) and remove at least one battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries but do not turn the handheld on.
For the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handheld units with ClickPad:
• Hold down [home] [enter] [P].
• While holding these keys press [on].
For the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handheld units with TouchPad and the TI-Nspire CX and TI-Nspire CX CAS:
• Hold down [doc] [enter] [EE].
• While holding these keys press [on].
Please Note: For TI-Nspire Family handheld units that contain rechargeable batteries you can alternatively hold the above keys while pressing the [reset] button on the back of the handheld rather than removing the battery for 2-5 seconds.
• The device will boot up as in the previous reset, but will display a menu with the following options. Please try options 2, 3, and 4 in that order.
• 1: Cancel - The most non-intrusive reset option; no changes are made, the unit restarts.
• 2: Delete Operating System - The operating system will be deleted without deleting any documents on the system.
• 3: Delete Document Folder Contents - This will delete the user's documents, but will not delete the OS. Selecting this option is the same as using the RESET hole on the back of the unit.
• 4: Complete Format - This will delete the OS and all documents for a total wipe of the handheld.
Please note that the second and fourth option will require that the OS will need to be reinstalled

Hi, can you tell me how I can make a simple program so I can change the Nspire to degree or radian mode without having to go through Settings etc etc? My students frequently make mistakes because it is...

No need for such a program. You can specify the angle unit for a calculation regradless of the angle unit currently set as default.
For the TI Nspire with Touchpad.
Calculate the sine of 30 degrees.
Press the trig> button next to = on the left side of keyboard.
Select sin and press ENTER
Type in 30
Press the key with the question/Exclamation marks.
Use right arrow to highlight the degree symbol.
Press ENTER. No need to close parenthesis.
The answer is displayed as 0.5.

To enter an angle in radian (regardless of the angle unit set as default.
Do as above to type in the function
Type in the angle.
Press the small button marked with Pi and arrow (To the left under the EE button)
Use the arrow to highlight the small superscript r.
Press ENTER

For TI Nspire with ClickPad
Press the trigonometric function key.
Enter the angle
Press the key with infinity symbol, beta, degree (below the Clear button.
At the top of the list where the Pi symbol is you will find the degree, radian, and gradian symbols.
Append the one you want and and press ENTER.

How do you put the batteries in?

  1. Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS) and remove at least 1 battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries and turn the unit on. This will cause the unit to reboot the operating system.
  2. Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire Family or TI-Nspire CAS Touchpad) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS) and remove at least 1 battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries and LEAVE THE UNIT OFF (do not turn on and then back off). If the TI-Nspire/TI-Nspire CAS is a Clickpad, hold down [Home] [Enter] [P], and while holding these keys, press [On]. If the TI-Nspire/TI-Nspire CAS is a Touchpad, instead hold down [Doc] [Enter] [EE], and while holding these keys, press [On]. The device will boot up as in the previous reset, but will display a menu with the following options. Please try options 1, 2, 3, and 4 in that order. ** The [Home] key is located at the top right of the TI-Nspire keypad and has a picture of a house on it.

I need help...i dont know how to put in exponents, negative exponents and i dont know how to put in fractions

For negative numbers (not just exponents), make sure you use the (-) key just to the right of the decimal point key, not the - key for subtraction.

For what follows I'm going to assume you have at least version 2.53 of the operating system for the 84Plus. If you have an older version, I STRONGLY recommend you update it:
http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_os_84plus.html

You can use the "n/d" command in the MATH/NUM menu to enter the division bar. For example, to enter 1/2, press 1 MATH right-arrow ALPHA [D] 2 ENTER. If you just want the number, you can also enter it as 1 / 2.

You can convert a decimal number to a fraction using the >Frac command in the MATH menu. For example, to convert 0.2 to a fraction, press . 2 MATH 1 ENTER.

I cannot figure out how to set the calculator to "degree" mode in order to use sin, cos, and tan. Help please!

In Scratchpad, how do I change the default angle settings from radians to degrees?

By default, your handheld's angle settings are in radian mode. If you want the default angle setting to be changed to degrees, please follow these steps:
  • Using a TI-Nspire Family Handheld with Touchpad, press [doc]. Using a TI-Nspire Family Handheld with Clickpad, press [ctrl] [home] while in an open Document or in Scratchpad. Both procedures will take you to the next screen, and the procedures can also be used on any TI-Nspire Family of Desktop Software.
  • Press the [7] key to select the option for 7: Settings and Status c27070ss1.jpg
  • Press the [2] key to choose the option 2: Settings c27070ss2.jpg
  • Press the [1] key to choose 1: General or press the [2] key for 2: Graphs and Geometry, depending upon which default angle settings you are looking to change. c27070ss3.jpg
  • Press [tab] key once to select Angle, next press the [down] on the touchpad or clickpad and select Degree from the list and press [Enter]
  • Press [tab] key until you get to the option "Make Default" c27070ss4.jpg
  • Press [enter] on "Make Default". When the handheld asks if you want to save the new settings as default for new documents and Scratchpad, press [enter] to accept the changes. c27070ss5.jpg
Choosing "Make Default" will save the settings as your default settings for both scratchpad, and any new documents you create after that point.

Locate % button

There is no % button on the calculator, but depending on what you need it for, there are some simple basic programs that could work for this. If you just want to find percent from a fraction or decimal, use this one.
Hit the program button and press right two times the enter to get a new program.
Name your program "PERCENT"
hit enter
hit program, right, enter, to paste "Input" onto your screen
In quotes, put "Number?", then a comma, then N (not in quotes)
Press enter to get to a new line.
Enter "100N-->N" (once again, not in quotes)
The arrow is found directly above the on button
Press ENter again, putting you on the third line.
Hit program, right, 3 to paste Disp on your screen.
Put N after, not in quotes

Your screen should look like this:

PROGRAM:PERCENT
:Input "NUMBER",N
:100N-->N
:Disp N

Press 2nd Mode to quit, then hit the program key and select program Percent to run (making sure you are in the "Exec" menu)
Hit enter to run your program: it should turn decimals or fractions to percents.
Don't feel that your intelligence is being insulted by me giving explicit instructions that may be below your level in programming: I did not know whether or not you were proficient.
