Live Mix - Kick Drum

I go to a lot of live gigs where the mix is all "there" but it lacks overall.

Most engineers I find underestimate the importance of a really solid kick sound in their overall mix. The audience, while probably not knowing why, will respond much better if the kick drum has real presence.

There is a simple way to do this:

1. Boost the Bass (as far as you can push it without clipping or "*******" for maximum "RUMBLE" )

2. Cut 315htz in the low mid (this is the "BOOM" sound, bad for a kick, fill it with Bass guitar)

3. Leave Hi Mids flat

4. Boost treble for good definition (The "CLICK" sound)

5. Build your mix around this. I like to have it up far enough so that you can feel the kick drum as well as hear it but not much louder.

I will leave most of the other drums flat unless the toms are too boomy in which case I cut a little of the low mids in them. You can also add a bit of extra 2000htz to the snare for more "crispness".

Remember a good live mix has a good wall of sound:

(If youre going to boost, boost these approx frequencies depending on the room)

Cymbals 5000htz-20000htz
Snare 2000htz
Vocal/Horns 500-3000htz
Guitar 300-1500htz
Toms 300-500hz
Bass 100-400htz
Kick 20-200htz, 5000htz-20000htz

Another simple mistake is not having headphones, I see this all the time!! You need them to isolate channels so you can quicly find out where any unexpected problems/noises are coming from.

Don't forget to have EQs on all your AUX/Monitor sends and Front of House to cut feedback!

Hope this can help out any engineers starting out.

Thanks,

Doomface

1990 Camry ignition will not go under "acc" position.

In a Camry this age it is most likely that the key and lock both are worn. Toyota ignition key barrels are known to wear. Both old Toyotas I have had did this.

Go to an auto locksmith and explain that you want a key cut with a little extra metal on the profile, due to wear, and see if that works.

If not you need a new ignition key barrel (just the centre, not the electrical bits). It can be made to fit the old key, however you might decide not to bother doing that as it isn't much trouble to have 2 keys for the car.

Why would a 98 grand prix gtp transmission pull just fine for 5 milesthen quit cut off car put in nueatral 5 r 10 secs grank back put in gear pulls like a new 1 same thing over and over please explain

There are many things that can cause this, a bad transmission pump or torque converter, restarting the engine helps it because you are stopping the flow of oil and then restarting it oil starts to flow again and increase pressure as you accelerate ,
Another problem could be in the vanes of the torque converter with the same concept when you shut it down and restart it.

You would need a ****** shop to check pressure and put scan tool on it to watch readings, and last it may be low on fluid or internal leakage causing loss of pressure.

What does "on battery" &

It's an auto lock setting wherein you can set the time when the display goes on sleep. If for example, it runs on battery and you want the display to go off after 5 minutes so you can save battery, you can set it to that. If it's plugged in charger and you don't want the display to go off, you can set it to never so it doesn't lock the phone and acts as a real alarm clock.

My screen does not cover the whole screen. It is not on widescreen mode, but it is a shortened picture and some of what I am watching is cut off.

A lot depends on what the TV station cuts off also.
If they are transmitting a 5 X 4 picture, your TV will try an reproduce it giving cut off edges or top and bottom. It won,t fit properly.
Hope that helps to explain it.
