This is usually the coil packs that cause this. Replace them and should be fine.

Kenmore dryer heats at first then quits

You may have a bad thermocouple. The thermocouple is what "tells" the control unit that the flame is present. If it doesn't tell the control, the control turns the gas off to prevent an explosion.

I have a a Whirlpool LGB6000KQ1 Gas Dryer. Sometimes the heat comes on, sometimes it does not. Could it be the thermostat or something else?

it appears as if your unit has a small plastic plug/access hole cover below the left corner of the dryer door. if you remove that you should be able to look within the dryers burner area and observe what might be happening..
if when you turn the dryer to a normal timed cycle, on high heat and start the unit, shortly after the dryer begins running you should be able to observe the glow ignitor glowing through that access hole, and shortly after that hear a click and flames appear, if is not glowing then there are probably thermal fuses blown out on the backside of your unit, or the ignitor is bad.
if however it does glow, and maybe even fire up once then all the safetys mentioned b4 are good.. now sit there and watch your ignitor/burner assembly.. the flame will cycle on and off depending on the dryers internal temperatures, but the main thing to look for is whether the ignitor glows, then fails to click then produce flames, if that be the case the gas valve coils are bad and need to be replaced part # is 279834 - M STYLE COIL KIT
hope this helps,
best of luck,

Gas neptune dryer fires up for 45 sec. to 1 min, then goes out

Could be a couple different things,Possibly a thermostat or high limit that is kicking out too soon, also has a flame sensor next to the burner that can come and go.if you have a toggle switch or pushbutton switch you can unplug the unit take the two wires off the flame sensor (black box about the size of a cigarette pack on the left of the burner)plug them into the switch start the dryer Turn the switch on till the igniter glows bright, turn the switch off and the burner will light if it stays lit at least till it gets to temp replace the flame sensor.(It won't cycle with out flipping the switch each time)

Gas dryer not heating properly

This sounds like the flame sensor is bad to me.

If it does not work properly, the unit will shut off for safety. The machine assumes that the burner did not light and rather than run gas into your house, it shuts off. It may try to start a certain number of times and then shut off.

You may be able to remove and clean it (flame sensor) lightly with a scotch brite pad and it may work properly again.

Otherwise it will need replacement.

This is a very common problem and the part is probably in stock.

Post a comment on your progress as this solution is likely to be useful to many people.

Thanks,

Tim

The problem is not the gas valve.

Whirlpool Gas Dryer

Yes, that is most likely the problem. Once the glow bar igniter glows so hot, the switch opens & drops power to the igniter.(The radiant sensor has continuity while cold & open when a flame is present.) At the same time, by opening it redirects power to the valve coils allowing them to open & gas flow to the burner assembly. The dying glow of the igniter fires the gas. However, if your igniter glows, the radiant sensor is good. In this case, you'd need to replace the gas valve solenoids.
