The Moen 1222 is the cartridge you want. The 1222 is the OEM number, and the cartridge carries a lifetime warranty. If you call moen at 1-800-buy-moen, they will likely send you a replacement cartridge free of charge. Some wholesale plumbing suppliers will also do it if you act like you know what you are talking about, and they don't have an aversion to "retail" customers.
I was also looking for the 12801 replacement cartridge for my one handle kitchen faucet. Took the advice of jasmic11 and called the 800-buy-moen# and went through all the prompts and once i got to a cust rep they asked me a few ?'s and were nice enough to send me a replacement cartridge FREE of charge. It's $15.00 charge if u want it sent to u over night. I chose the free shipping. They also sent me an email with instructions on how to replace it and a shipping confirmation email as well. NOOOOO!!! That's a typo, Jasmic11. The equivalent cartridge is the 1225. You can find 1225 replacements at almost any hardware store, but as Rigo said, Moen will send you one free.
The 1225 is for a single-handle faucet (one handle for both hot + cold), whereas the 1222 is for two-handle faucets (one knob for hot, one knob for cold). They are not the same and not compatible.

A Moen 1225 is the cartridge you want. Use plumbers grease to ease installation of the new cartridge.
I have to agree with Jim. I just replaced my cartridge with a package labeled Moen 1225. Interestingly, on the new valve , is the 12801 number. In any case, worked perfectly. Thanks to all. A 12801 in no longer listed on Amazon.
