You will probably need to install new drivers to get you HL 1240 printer to work with XP. To get the new printer drivers go to www.download.com and search for xphl12x0.exe. The search box is located at at the upper right corner of the page. To download and install this file just follow the instructions. This should allow you to use your HL 1240 with Windows XP. FYI, download.com is associated with Cnet.com and all of the downloads are checked for viruses. It's a very safe place to download various types of freeware and I've used it many times without any problems. I hope this helps you out.

My computer verson is win 8.but my iriver install disc supported win xp.98.me.2000.so how could I installed this disc on my computer /

There are a couple options here. First you can try to see if the manufacturer has a driver for that product in Windows 8 on their website. Judging by the requirements (xp, 98, 2000), your product may not be supported on Windows 8 as it is probably and legacy (older) product but you never know as some manufacturers keep drivers up for some of their older products. Second option, is to right click the install file and run it in compatibility mode which is in properties. You can get to properties by right clicking or tapping the icon. Once in properties, click or tap compatibility tab, change the options so it is running in Windows XP mode, and try the install after applying it. This option is not guaranteed but its probably the only shot you have at using the original driver on Windows 8. Best of luck.

If you are trying to connect through a modem/router the driver should have come with a disc provided by your ISP internet service provider or your motherboard disc
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question mark? right click install drivers if you cant find the driver hopefully one of these will help you

How do you get an external sata disc mounted in a dock (Thermaltake Black X dock) to communicate with a WIN 98 SE system? The box says the dock supports WIN 98 buit I cannot find drivers that work.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98 over two years ago,
and stopped supporting Windows 2000 on July 16, 2010.

So, any company that manufactures "new" (in the last two years) hardware probably will _NOT_ have written device-drivers for Windows 98/98SE/NT/2000.

Does the external disk work correctly when connected to a computer running Windows XP? Vista? 7 ?
If not, then maybe the external disk itself is the problem.

I have MS Money 1999 operating with Windows 98 which will no longer open except in safe mode. Can I download a version of MS Money to use with my back up disc - using Windows XP Home

You can in fact run it in Win 98se Mode in XP, you simply have to set compatibility for win 98, right click the install, sertup, install, .exe and choose properties, then set the compatibility tab for Win 98. also do as Administrator, and also install as Administrator too. You may also need to alter some of the "other" setting on that tab too, you may have to experiment a little to get it to go... Failing that you could use MS Virtual PC, and set it up running in that, you could make a Win98 Virtual machine and load it and run it on that?

Cd rom will not read. have just put windows 98 on instead of xp, hard disc was formated, have win 98 now, but cd wont work or if i plug in usb memory stick

With Windows 98 you MUST install a suitable driver in addition to Windows 98 to talk to CD Roms. I believe there is also a general service routine that must be loaded.

XP has all this functionality built in.

I CAN'T INSTALL A WINDOWS XP SOFTWARE

Thank you for choosing Fixya.com

Yes you can install the Windows XP on P4X266.

Here could be five various steps you can go about.

  • Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XP
Use this method for a clean installation of Windows XP. A clean installation removes all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk.
  • Method 2: Upgrade to Windows XP
Use this method if you are upgrading to Windows XP from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
  • Method 3: Install Windows XP to a new hard disk
Use this method to install Windows XP to a new hard disk. This is typically done when a new hard disk is installed on your computer.
  • Method 4: Install Windows XP to a new folder (parallel installation)
Use this method to install Windows XP to a new folder (parallel installation) to either run two operating systems, or to access, repair, or retrieve data from a damaged disk.
  • Method 5: Perform a multiple boot operation
Use this method to install Windows XP as a separate operating system on your computer. This lets you install more than one operating system on your computer and select which operating system that you want to use every time that you start your computer.
