Won't print - just flashes it's lights at me!

Hi, please help. My printer HP PSC 1510 has always been great. But today when printing a webpage, went exceptionally slowly and since then, when I send something to print the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge light is flashing and the Black Start Copy light is flashing also. On copies it says E. I have tried clearing all print jobs and I have turned off the printer for a minute, turned it on again and it is still doing the same thing. The paper doesn't appear to be jammed and the print was coming out fine earlier - no warnings at all. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jane

Very odd, because mine is doing the same thing. but it's the color copy button flashing.

I made sure the cartridges were sitting properly, and it will print a test page, but I can't even scan or copy and there are no print jobs waiting.

I also tried unplug the power source and replugging it, and still the two lights flash.

    Same problem - Exactly !
Attempting to get help from HP was not successful
Bought new Print Carts (as they suggested) - which
fixed the problem for about 2-3 printings then back
to the same Flashing lights and "E"  in the 'Copies'
    LED Display area

Pressing the flashing buttons simultaneously, evokes
the printer to spit out an internal diagnostic page ...
(HP Support staff were oblivious to this page and it's
purpose - At least the staff that assisted me)
Just after the page prints, the printer faults out again

    ????

Also note, I did see a error dialog box (Computer) that
made some reference to some sort of  "PEN ERROR"
I mentioned this to the support staff as well  - No joy !

Any help greatly appreciated - Big Thanks

I tried what phrek said (" Pressing the flashing buttons simultaneously, evokes the printer to spit out an internal diagnostic page ..."), but after the diagnostic page printed out the printer worked fine again.

Thanks for the help, and hopefully things work out for the rest of you as well.

I lied. It worked the first time, but not after that.

Ink lvels

Hello holliston,
You can try the following steps that should help you determine your ink levels.

  1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Click Start and select HP Solution Center . Select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • In your printing application, click File , click Print , and click Properties . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining. Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.
If you do not mind, please rate my help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hp psc 1510 - only want black ink

Hi Manavoc,

I will explain you the cause for it.

It prints in yellow first and then override with black for better quality. This is the reason your color ink gets empty.

MY test page always prints

Hi,

I belive that after replacing the INk cartridges, you are experiancing this problem. The Alignment test sheet always prints everytime you turn on the printer, if u haven't completed the Alignment process.

To complete the Alignment process,
>>Once the printer finished printing the Alignmnet test sheet.
>> Place the Test sheet staright on the scanner glass facing down towards right hand corner.
>>Press the scan button(color), the Power ON light will start flashing, wait until it stops flashing.
>>Alignmnet process completed.

Thank You
