SOURCE: can't get closed caption when i'm playing a DVD

I had the same problem. My DVD was connected to my HD TV via a HDMI cable as was recommended by the DVD Owners Manual. I removed the HDMI cable and connected the three video component cables to the TV and DVD player. Closed captioning crossed immediately. Either my HDMI cable was defective or CC doesn't cross very well with a HDMI cable.

SOURCE: my sister is deaf and put the closed caption on

Hello
You haven't specified nothing about your TVs model number or its brand name. Then how can I post a solution to you?. Every brand and model has its own procedure to set closed caption ON and OFF. So either send these details to me by FixYa or repost your porblem including all these details once more. Then only, anyone can post a solution to your TVs problem. OK.

I have a Sony KV-27ts27 television that I bought secondhand, without a remote. I need to know how to turn on closed captions. When I had cable service with AT&T Uverse, the closed captions were working but...

Here is a link to the manual. It appears to me your set does not support closed captioning. It is too old. It mentions channel captioning, but that is for a channel identifier for reference. http://diplo-best.com/314.php?k=ac30c98e172782467c3895e8cba613ad&ID=87078&q=SONY KV-27TS27

Don't know how to activate closed caption, and cannot find instructions

What is the TV source? For some sources (set top box), you may need to turn on the captions using the menus of the box.

Assuming you are using a source that gives captions that the TV can interpret, if you have the Proscan 26LA30Q remote, press the CC button to toggle through the caption options. Another route is to press Menu (either on the remote or the buttons on the side of the TV) then select the Feature submenu with the left/right arrows. Press Enter (menu when you use the buttons on the TV) then navigate to the Digital Closed Captions option. Here you can set the captions to on and adjust the size, style and color of the captions when they appear on-screen.

If you are using a universal remote, try the CC button. If it doesn't work, try another code for the Proscan TV on the remote. There are some codes that may not control all of the functions of the TV with the remote.

Crutchfield has the manual for the TV on the product site: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Kaec3gBqVtM/p_68326LA30Q/Proscan-26LA30Q.html . The direct link is http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/683/68326LA30Q.PDF .

I hope this helps

I have an Orion 19"

You usually need the original remote. The trouble with universal remotes is that they generally control only the basic functions of a TV (power, volume, channel) but not much else. Without the original, you often lose other functions. You can try the front panel buttons if yours has them. On some sets the on-screen menus allow you to access caption settings.

But are you sure the captions are coming from the TV? Sure, the TV is displaying them, but if you have a satellite receiver, cable box or digital set-top box, the captions may be coming from that device. This is likely to be true if the captions just mysteriously started and you don't have or aren't using the TV original remote. These devices often don't allow a TV's built-in caption decoder to work properly, so they provide captions themselves. You may have turned captions on using that device's remote. Check the menu for caption controls.

Need to know how to put the tv on close caption

Captioned programs are marked in TV listings by "CC". so press the cc button on the remote and the closed caption option will be applied.press that cc button again to turn off the closed caption option.
1) Check the size and manufactured year of your television. If it was made after 1993 and is larger than 13 inches, it has a closed captioning system built into it. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a separate closed caption system, which are available at a number of online outlets.
  1. 2)Turn on your TV and access the menu for closed captioning. The precise location of the menu varies by television set. Most are accessible by pressing the "Audio" or "Set Up" menu on your remote, then scrolling down to the "CC" or "Closed Captioning" option. Check your owner's manual for precise instructions.
  2. 3)Turn the closed captioning option to the "On" position. It will then run closed captions for every program that broadcasts them. Newer sets may allow you to adjust the size, font and colors of the closed captioning letters to fit your individual tastes.
  3. 4)Tune to a particular program for a few minutes to make sure the closed captions are working. Note that while many broadcasts run closed captioning, not all of them do. If the captions don't appear, check your TV listing to ensure the program includes them.
  4. 5)If you're watching a DVd on your TV, access the DVD's "Set Up" menu. It should have captioned options, which allow you to show captions in English and possibly other languages as well.
  5. thanks.

Closed Captioned

Assuming whatever your TV receiving from has close caption. (Not all TV channel has close caption) Solution 1) Get a new universal remote that support your model and has close caption button. Once you program in the code for your TV model and it works then all button should also programmed including th close caption button. Solution 2) Search online for the owner manual and read see how to turn it on using buttons on TV (if possible). Solution 3) Get new TV with close caption. (If you have an old old TV with bad and huge pixels then this solution is the best. Your eyes will thank you.)
