I have a Viper RPN 471T remote car starter. Recently it quit working. I have replaced the battery. The car still locks with the left button, but will not start (or respond in any way) by pushing both buttons simultaneously. This is a real problem in Saskatchewan, Canada, when the wind chills are down to -45 ! Is there a reset on this unit? Thanks, Sadie Remenda

SOURCE: Viper won't remote start and arm/disarm only works sometimes

Greetings Microluv,

Simple question, have you changed the battery in your remote lately? I was having similiar issues with my remote start and it was a simple matter of changing the batteries in the remote.

I figured lets eliminate the easy stuff first. :)

SOURCE: Valet 473T remote

It sounds like the system needs tach sensor reprogramming. The remote start system may have a tachometer sensing mode where the system "knows" that the car is running and to stop cranking the starter when when the engine is running. Generally when the vehicles battery is disconnected the system "forgets" the setting of the tachometer at idle which is programmed at the time if installation. Take it to a remote start installation store for this or get a hold of a maual for your system and shouldnt be too dificult to program.

SOURCE: REMOTE STARTER NOT WORKING COMPLETELY

Here is page 2 of the owners manual, Hope it helps.

This will not start the vehicle if any one of the following situations exists;
The vehicle's hood lid is opened.
The gear shift selector is not in Park.
The brake pedal is depressed.
The safety control switch is in the Off position.

1. To start the vehicle, press and release the transmitter button two times within 2
seconds. The vehicle will start and remain running for the pre-programmed 5,10,15,20 minute run cycle. As a visual indication, the parking lights will flash or remain on depending on the setting by your installation center.

2. When you arrive at the vehicle, turn the ignition key to the ON position (not the spring loaded start position), then step on the brake pedal to disengage the remote starter. The
vehicle will continue to run, but now on it's own power.
NOTE: The engine will stop running before the pre-programmed run cycle has expired if you perform any one of the following functions;
-Press and the button on the keychain transmitter two times within 2 seconds.
-Depress the brake pedal.
-Open the vehicle's hood
-Place the unit in the safety control disabled mode.
PRLED SAFETY CONTROL SWITCH

The Push-Button LED control switch allows you to temporarily disable the remote starting function of the system. This recommended whenever the vehicle is being serviced. To place the system in the service mode:

1) With the system disarmed/unlocked, and the ignition switch off Press and Hold the PRLED on.
2) Turn the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on, off.
3) The LED begins to flash two short flashes followed by one long flashes and continues this pattern until returned to normal mode of operation. This puts the unit into the R/S Override mode indicating that the remote start is in the service mode and will not start from RF or any other input Posse or otherwise.
To Exit R/S Override Mode
1) With the system disarmed, Press and Hold the PRLED on.
2) Turn the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on, off.
3) The LED turns off indicating that the R/S unit is fully functional one again

Just bought a`used truck that came with a Viper RPN 479VPC remote. Is this just a car alarm or is this a remote start also? Any help? Little blue remote with car diagram on screen...has lock, unlock, aux,...

That remote can work with both a security system, and a combo unit security/starter.

Best bet is to take the vehicle and remote to your local Viper dealer and they can look the car over and tell you what was installed and help you learn how to use it.

We purchased a 1990 Chev truck with a viper alarm and the keyless remote is pretty well shot. How do we determine the model so that we can order a new remote? Many times we cannot get the truck to start...

Unless the remote is identified by a model # then your going to have to get the model & S/N on the alarm control box itself.
The remote should have a number on it RPN
