Mustek PVR-H140 shuts down when I insert some SD cards

This unit works perfectly otherwise but when I insert an SD card in the slot, it immediately shuts itself down. Also if I insert the card before starting up, when I press the power button the blue light goes on for a few seconds, then it shuts down. This has happened with both a 2gb and a 1 gb card. However, I have another 1gb SD card from a digital camera which it works fine with. The 2 'problem' cards work fine in other devices so it couldn't be the cards. What could be causing this? Thanks.

i have the same problem using a PNY 1GB card made in Taiwan. However, I have another PNY 1GB card bought much earlier, made in Japan, and that card works. I have another 1GB micro SD card made by San Disk with a regular SD card adapter and that also works fine. I think some card like the newer PNY have something incompatibility. Not sure what.

Yes that's correct newer SD Cards use faster memory chips that are not always compatable, not just with this unit but you can have the same problem with cameras and other MP3 players as well.

The PVR-H140 is quite old now so stick to the older type cards, oh and they dont like being hot swapped, this can cause a shutdown or driver corruption, insert them before turning the unit on.

AC power jack came loose from the board on both the Yukai PVR-H240 and Mustek PVR-H140. Is this a common problem?

This happened to me too. Just unscrew the 4 screws, lift out the hard drive and glue it back down to where it was (2 little pegs will fit into two little holes on the circuit board. You can touch the contacts with a thin tipped soldering iron if you want to but you probably don't need to.Then close it up. That worked for me!

Restore files

goto http://www.nodevice.com/driver/_PVR-H140/get33981.html

Download the zip file, then just copy all the files to the unit, should work fine, don't forget to keep a copy in case you need them again.

NEED DRIVERS FOR MUSTEK PVR-H140

HI,
the drivers for the unit are available at http://www.nodevice.com/driver/_PVR-H140/get33981.html

you can use the unit as an external drive, you will need to connect the it to your computer via usb then power it up, after 30 seconds or so it should show up on "My Computer" as an extra drive.

if it doesn't show then the internal battery could be flat, though it will charge via the usb if the power is off (red light on when charging) or use the supplied power adapter.

PVR-H140 doesn't work but cannot restore files

Problem is once the hard drive is corrupted you can't access usb to fix the problem. You have to remove the four screws on the back cover remove the 40gig hard drive. Find a laptop or an ide to usb adapter to reformat the drive. Must be fat32 not ntsf. Then copy all files back onto drive.
