I found that the problem was just a dirty stop/eject switch. I sprayed contact cleaner into the switch and worked it a bit. Problem solved.

SOURCE: VCR repeatedly tries to play and eject when tape deck is empty

the tape carriage is probably stuck, or something stuck inside blocking the tape sensor.
feed a tape in and see if it does it "with" the tape too

hope this helps

Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Vcr cuts my tv off after i put the tape in

The VCR is not turning the TV power off. The tape is not playing. I'd guess maybe it needs a cleaning or a replacment.

My emerson EWV603 vcr. When I turn it on or when I insert a videocasette, the screen is blue. How do I get to the menu stuff so that I can program my vcr?

Sounds like your VCR & TV are on different channels.
The VCR's ouput is channel 3 or 4. Try turning your TV to either channel and see if you get a picture. OR try playing the tape and after 2 or 3 seconds, push the play button again for a few seconds to change the VCR's ouput channel.

Magnavox TV/DVD/VCR combo keeps turning off

So after calling a tv repair guy and listening to him tell me about how it is probably something to do with the transistor and it will cost me about 150 dollars to fix ( which I could buy a new tv for that price since it is only a 19 inch) I decided to look online at this issue of turning off after 5-10 seconds. I read about it being an issue with the VCR sensor, so I don't know about it being some LED that you have to replace because I just messed around with a VHS and moving the little white bar thingy on the right just inside the door for the VHS around a bit, and Voila it started working right again. I think maybe my son tripped something by sticking things in there and whatever I touched fixed it. So my advice is to just stick a VHS in and take it back out a few times and play with a few things inside and to the right. It didn't take long for it to work for me.

What do I do when my Emerson TV keeps turning off by itself?

I had the same problem with mine turning off after 3-5 seconds. After much research I found a suggestion that on some combo units the vcr part could have a power supply cutout if it is not working correctly. I tried to insert a tape and found that the tape mechanism would not accept a tape. I used a little bit of force and managed to insert a tape. I then played the tape forwards and backwards and the power stayed on! I ejected the tape and found the TV then worked just fine. The power has now been on for over one hour. I hope this give you another avenue to try and fix your problem.

VHS problem, any help?

It sounds to me like you have a problem with the reel sensors not detecting movement of the tape through the VCR. This could also be caused by a defective voltage regulator(s) that powers the sensors. This model was made by symphonic/funai (1-800-242-7158), and it is not likely worth repairing.

My Tv is turning off by itself

if all you want to do is disable the vcr portion turn the set on , install a blank vhs tape it has to be blank or the vcr will try to read it .and the tv and dvd should work fine. this is a timing problem in the vcr deck its not hard to fix but it is a pain.
