It is there to remind you that the result display format is set to a fixed number of decimal digits. If you change the setting to SCI, NORM1, NORM2 or ENG, the one you choose will be be displayed. So you will always have something displayed there. Do you still have enough reasons to want to get rid of it?
Here is how to modify the setting
Press SETUP
Select 1:FSE
Select one of the 4 options: 0:FIX, 1:SCI, 2:ENG, 3:NORM1, or 4:NORM2

If you choose FIX, SCI or ENG, you will be prompted to specify the number of decimal digits (0 to 9).
You might want to select NORM1 or NORM2.
Then select the number of decimal digits to display

Hi, I need to graph with my TI 83 but I've run into a problem when trying to enter the (x,y) points that need to be plotted. From the beginning, I push "STAT" and highlight where it says...

Turn calculator on. Press the STAT button. In the new screen that displays, press 5:SetUpEditor, then ENTER. The deleted lists will be restored. Any data that was in them will not be recovered.

How to get rid of the "M" in the upper left hand

Try playing with the buttons on the bottom right. The M+, M-, and Mrc. You should be able to clear the "M" fairly easily.

In the Y= editor screen on my TI84 plus. The top row should have 4 options. "x=" "plot 1" "plot2" and "plot3". The "X=" option is missing.

I am sorry to disagree with you. There is no such option when you open the Y= editor. Is it possible you have seen this option in Casio calculators? Or in some third party programs?

I have Casio fx-350 MS. On the screen in the top right, it say "fix." And whenever the answer comes out to be a decimal, the calculator automatically rounds it up to 10th place. I need it to...

Cheer up, the calculator can display UP to 10 digits, no more. Internal memory keeps 12 digits. So clearly, this calculator is not fit to handle the precision you apparently are seeking. It may be time to look for a more capable calculator.

My casio fx-992s is showing fix and deg on the screen. I think the "fix" is causing me a problem but I can't get rid of it. All my decimals are being rounded up to whole numbers! Thanks

The DEG is merely indicating that the angular mode is set to degrees. If you want to change it to radians or grads, press SHIFT MODE and make your selection.

Likewise, the FIX is merely indicating that the calculator is displaying numbers in fixed decimal notation. If you're not seeing any digits to the right of the decimal point, then you're in FIX 0 mode. To change it, press SHIFT MODE. You can choose FIX and the calculator will prompt for the number of digits, or you can select NORM.

For every answer that's computed, I get an "E" added to it, and/or a decimal. How do I fix it? For instance, when putting in 5+5 I get "1E1" or 5x5 I get "2.5E1"

Your calculator is set to display results in scientific notation. To change this, press MODE, highlight "NORMAL" on the top line, press ENTER, and then 2ND [QUIT].

Cannot type numbers etc

Hello,
Press the reset button on the back of the unit. As to the things you want to get rid off, if they are on the top of the screen, they are indicators, to let you see what mode you are using. Some will change when you chande operation mode. There is nothing you can do about it.
However if these symbols are in the center of screen , with numbers to there left (a different number for each) they may be part of the setup procedure. During the setup procedure you are expected to configure your calculator in the mode relevant to the calculations you intend to perform.
What is an upside down p ? Could it be just a b? (as in binary). That is a mode of operation.
Hope it helps.

"Fix"

Hello,
The top of the screen displays reminders on the current configuration of the calculator. The FIX will disappear if you change number display to SCIentific or ENGineering, but it will be replaced by SCI or ENG. Why does it bother you, since that part is reserved for the calculator's usage?
Hope it helps.
