Mcdevito75 here, You don"t really have to be an authorized Movado dealer or repair center to service Movado watches, specially if Movado doesn"t have a warrantee on that particular watch. Also you say the stem was hard to turn, sounds like this particular Movado watch mechanism was starting to fail. The long and short is, you replaced the battery, set the watch and all was well when the customer recieved the watch back also, a Quartz mechanism could give out at anytime, just as a light bulb can. Have the customer come back with the watch if possible, place a drop of oil on the stem, try a replacement battery. Always ley your customers know what you find, and get a history of the watch from the customer before work, Age of watch, how it"s worn and stored etc. this way your covering yourself for any watch liability. You can offer this customer the mentioned re- service or a refund just to keep the customer happy.

Movado Clock has sat for years, still new, new battery inserted but will not run. Any ideas?

These timepieces are delicate, precision devices. Dirt, lint etc. can affect their operation. While most time it is hard for it to enter with the back on - one thing that can happen is oxidation. When wearing it - it reaches body temperature - and taking it off results in rapid cooling. This causes condensation to form inside the case and can eventually lead to oxidation. Bring it to a trusted jeweler for a cleaning and it should be good as new.

Chrongraph second hand soes not move when the chrongraph is engaged, however, the minute and tenth of the second indicators still work.

Movado watches require repairs done by an authorized Movado dealer. Call your locally-owned high-end jeweler and they can send it off for you... or Google "Movado repair" for an online resource.
It's not cheap (just like the Movado watch!), so I guess you need to decide how important it is to you to have the second hand movement.

I have a Movado 800 Series (Spec no. 8819176 or 84 C5 1897). I didn't wear it for a while and now when I try to use it aagain it doesn't work. Could it be something to do with the battery or it runs on a...

That watch has a quartz movement and most likely needs a new battery. Take it to a jeweler or to Sears for the replacement. It only takes a few minutes and should coat about $10.

How do I put the back on a Movado watch

When I replaced the battery in my wifes' Movado, I discovered that replacing the back is dang near impossible by hand. I guess that is why jewelers in my area charge about $20 to do it, plus battery cost. Jewelers use a special tool called a watch press. I improvised with an Irwin clamp out of my workshop. Note that this clamp has rubber padded jaws, which help protect the watch. I centered the back carefully, and tightened the clamp slowly, and after a bit she popped right in. If you are not comfortable doing this, just pay a jeweler to do the job, because you can ruin an expensive watch if you are not very careful.

Date will not advance on own. you can change it by hand but doesn't change at night stays on same date for days.

One of the wheels of the watch movement has become stuck or broken. You will either need to fix or replace the wheels or movement.

If you have still have warranty card for Movado and within the date range of the models warranty then Movado will repair watch for free if not you will have to have it fixed by Movado or a local jeweler.

My watch battery low. watch name MOVADO series 800

mcdevito75 here, Movado a FINE watch, BEST BET, look for a small watch repair shop in your area to change the battery, Movado watches have a very good over all value and any damage can lessen that value, not to mention the jewelers screwdriver you"ll need to change that battery.

I changed the battery in my esq swiss watch and can't get the back on the watch. What is the trick to re-installing the back

ooh, ESQ by Movado. These case backs are often pressure fit, just like Movado, and are notoriously difficult to reinstall. It sounds like it is going to take a watch press to install your caseback. This is an expensive tool which any jeweler that changes batteries will have. There is no real safe way to this without a press.
Now, I have just supposed that this is a pop off; if it is a screw on back then it would have had to have been unscrewed to get it off. If it is a screw-back then you will likely need to get a caseback wrench to tighten it down enough.

Ebel Wave lady's watch battery

to change the batt on an ebel womans watch i simple. 1 take out screws from bezel. 2 lift off , make sure to keep rubber gasket in place. 3 pull out stem to the set position. 4 be very carefull not to bend / touch hands. 5 turn case upside down, and you will see the opp side from the winder drop out slitely. with your fingernail pull downwards gently on works, then when you have it out a little on that side, turn it back over. and continue to lifft up gently, 5 as you do so, start to rowtate the works counter clockwise. the stem is made to .bend / swivel and the works will turn upside down and lay back into the case. to protect the face while installing the batt. 6 when done gently lift the same way but rowtate clockwise. but make sure you grab sides of works and not the face. ( the hands are very delicate) 7 take the batt to a jeweler to replace you will never find a batt with the same number ( ebel made sure of that ) they want you to pay 140.00 to 240.00 for them to do it. but a jeweler can match it. now that said, once you take the bezel off, your ebel warenty is void. so 140 -240 or $5.00 your choice i have had meny watches over the years all with rubber gaskets and have replaced batts is some five times and the gasket are still fine. and a batt will last 3 to four years. five in 15 years could cost you $ 1020.00 in the long run. hope that answers your question.
