You will need to remove the agitator and inner basket to access and replace the lint filter. It is best to replace the filter and not to try and clean it. Here is a link to the filter.
you will find that the cog driving the spindle has a worn spot and jumps every time it gets to the same spot the best thing to do is find the same machine in a scrap yard and swop the affending part or look on gumtree for a replacement machine altogether eric
Most likely it could be the forward belt . When the machine is under load you hear a winding noise it sounds like the pulley belt tensioner. One other thing to check the rinse and hold button is activated as in the past accidentally people have switched it off.
your problem is the drive pulley and the Helix. those 2 in combination disengage the breake to make the tub spin. pulley part# 40047102 and Helix part# 40047402 both found at Sears Website or Service Center,
sounds like you are dealing with the same problem as me .
take off the front panel (after unplugging power) take a flash lite and look at the large pulley at the back just below the pulley is the helix check to see if they are worn .
the pulley will not remove very easily , it wold require removine the milk stool, motor and some other parts, not the easiest hing to do especially if not needed, the helix you removed, take a look at it , the sloped ends of it should create a pretty sharp angle, then a 90degree drop off, the slopes om the pulley should be the same, they should not apppear to be rounded off, helix is probly 10 bucks if needed and if its at the helix that you see the "slipping" and "clicking noise, before condeming the tranny i would start with tthe helix, if after re-installing it it still clicks up and over pully perhaps try adding another spacer under the bolt before tightening. the idea behind the pulley and helix is that depending on rotation of the transissiion, the helix "pushes against" the pulley adn spreads the brake plate, releasing the brake allowing the tub tospin freely
