You need to re-install or, update the Ti 84 Plus OS. Since you just bought the calculator it is unusual that it is already to that point of clearing the RAM. You can connect a computer and your Ti 84 calculator together once you downloaded and, installed Ti Connect software on the computer. That way you can use the Ti OS Downloader that comes with Ti Connect software to install the newest Ti 84 Plus OS. Or, if you have a friend that has a Ti 84 Plus or, Ti 84 Plus Silver Edition you can connect the two calculators together through the IO link ports and, they can send you a copy of their OS while you receive it on your Ti 84.
Get this problem fixed as quick as you can. You do not want your OS to fail any more than what it already has. If you can not find another calculator to connect too, then you can connect through your computer. You may have a long road ahead of you getting the Ti Connect software and, drivers working right. Just remember to come back to your posting here and, post a comment of what ever is failing. This will notify me right away and, I'll walk you though it if necessary.
Texas Instruments has just came out with Ti 84 Plus OS 2.55v. You can still use my instructions and, link to my other posting to get there and download it. If you suspect that the Ti OS Downloader isn't giving you the updated OS, just follow my Procedure or step 2 to get the Ti 84 Plus newest OS 2.55v. To get to my other posting to download the newest Ti 84 Plus 2.55v just paste the link listed below to your address bar and hit Enter. Once there just follow Procedure or, step 2.
If you are using Windows 7 and, having trouble installing and connecting through Ti Connect go to the link listed below and follow Procedure 3. The other Procedures at this link listed below are for the Ti 89 but, will work and, are the same for Ti 84 Plus. Only the names were changed.
If this calculator is still unresponsive after you attempt to send the new OS, open it up in Ti Device Explorer. If it opens try deleting out small non important programs and, lists. Don't delete any 3rd party software. Once you freed up enough memory turn it off and, back on again. It should be more responsive. If so or not, comment at this posting to that fact, and I'll give more information on reset procedures or, possible fixes.
If your Ti 84 Plus will not turn on and , you can try this procedure but, make sure your ready to install the OS, if the calculator does come on. Try removing one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL] key, reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now." Now connect the calculator to the computer and, use Ti OSDownloader to install a new OS. I'm hoping the calculator will come back on when you re-insert the one battery. It be better to follow Procedure (1), in the instructions to install the OS at the link below but, I figured you'd be happy if it come on and, easier to use the Ti OSDownloader.
In your case instead of saying, "if the calculator come on," I should of said, "becomes responsive." These last 4 set of instructions might work for your calculator, since it's just lock-up.
