Whirlpool LGV4634JQ Gas Dryer Logo

I have a Kenmore series 70 gas dryer(model 110.74722400) and the dryer does not shut off when in auto-dry. It heats up well (replaced the coils and the timer), but just won't shut-off. We've been using the timer manual function and that works well. I've already cleaned out the lint from the exhaust. Is this a thermostat problem or thermal fuse or something else?

When it's in auto all it does is the heat comes on,reaches temp. then the heat shuts off, when the heats off then the timer advances, when the heat comes back on the timer stops.pop off the plastic cap on the left hand side of the front panel, put clothes in the dryer and run it,after 15 to 30 minutes look in the hole in the front panel and make sure the flame is still liting, also did you clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into.remove the vent line and if that's a long run blow it out with a leaf blower,i had one guy say his vent line was clear and he used a leaf blower and blew out a birds nest, then unplug the dryer, remove the back panel,on the left side take out the four screws and remove the duct and clean that out and the blower wheel, also remove the thermostat on the blower wheel housing and look at the back of it,if lint is stuck on it clean it off and put it back in and try that.also you said you changed out the gas coils, when you removed the out coils on the large coil there's a spacer that goes on the post and sometimes when you remove the coil it gets stuck inside the old coil or if after running the dryer for like 20 to 30 minutes and the flame doesn't lite you have bad gas coils, when they heat up they fail when they are going bad and that will stop the timer from advancing.let me know what you find and if i can help with any questions let me know

one more thing, before you blow out the vent line go outside and make sure you have no screen or anything blocking the outside duct, you want the lint to blow out with no restrictions.i had this problem that you are discribing before, the vent line and the duct that the lint filter slides into were blocked up,the owner told me he had cleaned the dryer, the thermostat couldn't read the temperature in the dryer correctly even after the clothes dried completly it still woudn't shut off.i cleaned out the duct and blew out the vent line and it was fine

I have a kenmore 70 series gas dryer. It won't

Check the thermal fuse and thermostats first, then the ignitor and the valve coils are the next possibilities.

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

Gas dryer not maintaining heat. 70 Series Kenmore/Whirlpool 76722

Fuse is ok . Problem is the soils on the burner valve . If the dryer heats when started , the electricity goes thru the coils to open the valve . Once the coils get warm , 1 will open (short) until it cools back down . The coils can be replaced just by removing the front panel . Only 2 screws hold the coils in place . No turning off gas , dissasembling dryer .

Kenmore dryer not heating

Check the following-- Gas valve coils Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Kenmore dryer 70 series flame ignites, but goes out after 5 mins

If it's gas, the coil valves get weak and are unable to hold themselves open when hot. First, check the exhaust vent. If it's clogged, it can't remove heat and it will shut off prematurely. Most likely the coil valves though.
