Constant RX mode on Cobra Microtalk Walke Talke

I use walkie talkies in my business and I have a couple that constantly have the receive mode on. Anytime yoy try to transmit from one of them or from any other of the walkie talkies, it transmits a loud static until you push a button. The only thing different on them from the others that don't do this is that on the left side, the RX is constantly on. I can't figure out how to get it off.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately this did not fix the walkie talkie. The problem is that the RX symbol is constantly on the screen and anytime someone tries to communicate to it or from it, all it does is transmit static.

    Any suggestion?

    Thank you

I have the same walkie talkies and on mine I can hold down the mode/lock button and it will come off of the Rx mode. Also, you should be able to press the talk button and it will come off of the Rx mode.

Hello CleanRightCo,

Many two-way radios have a Monitor function that disables the squelch control. The squelch is what keeps the radios quiet when they are not receiving an incoming signal. However the squelch feature can also cause weak signals to cut out and not be understood, so the Monitor function provides a way to disable the squelch in those circumstances. It sounds like you have the Monitor enabled / squelch disabled on the units that you hear constant static.

For the Cobra MicroTalk 4100 it appears that you enable the monitor by holding down the Light/Max Range button for 5 seconds until the radio beeps twice. You may have activated this function inadvertently. To disable the monitor and re-enable squelch simply press the Light/Max Range button again or change channels.

If this doesn't fix the problem there may be a problem with the auto squelch function on the radios. Or the channel you are operating on may have a noise level that is above the radio's squelch level. You can try changing channels. Or another possible solution would be to activate the CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) on all the radios. This function will mute the radio's receiver unless a signal is received from another unit using he same CTCSS code. This should keep the units quiet regardless of the noise level on the channel. However all the radios MUST be set to the same CTCSS code or they will not be able to communicate with each other.

Best Regard

One of my walkie talkie has an RX on the display and you can send but you cannot hear the other person. How can I remove the RX as that seems to be the only difference in them. Thank you

depending on what radio you have, they are programmed in different ways, rx means recieve signal

and tx means transmit signal, if you have a mode button, you will have to scroll through it until you

get to the menu that allows you to change the radio transmission. it looks like that radio is only

programmed to receive signals and not transmit. good luck!

Constant RX mode on cobra microtalk PR3850WX

Sounds like the radio was subjected to electrostatic discharge. If you have your manual, and it describes a way to do a "master reset" on the radio, follow the instructions. This usually involves pushing down on one key while turning the radio on. Otherwise you have to find a licensed dealer for factory service, as there is no way to repair the radio yourself. The use of surface mount technology still confuses many Techs unless they have been to a company's two or three week seminars.
