A hard reset can clear minor error codes. A lot of times you do not really need to call for your support contractor. Sometimes errors stop the function of a machine, but the machine could still function properly with a hard reset. Perhaps there is a better description than hard reset, as "reset disable function" is a little bit confusing and not a phrase you were likely look for.
Contact your service provider before following these instructions.
Use at your own risk. Perhaps there is a possibility of causing damage. Again, contact your provider.

This reset is used for two purposes:
1) reset any data that may be "hung up" in the hard drive.
2) reset an error code and attempt to continue use. (If the error recurs, then you should escalate to whomever supports the copier.
Hard Reset Procedure:
Press Status button
Enter 10871087 - You are now in Maintenance Mode
Enter 906 (do not enter any other numbers!)
Press Start
Press Execute
Press Start
Copier tells you to turn it off/on
Turn off power by switch on right side of copier (hard power off)
Turn on power by switch on right
I have seen to use code 163 instead of 906. I don't know what this does. Again, consult experts before using this code or any others.

not work, in display printer shows error 5b00. I can't go to nv ram setting. Can you help me?

This error comes due to NV RAMof the printer. To diagnose this issue you'll need to reset the NV RAM of your printer, you can do that by entering the service mode. To do this turn on the machine. Press menu button the printer. Press scan button, then press copy and then scan button again to enter the service mode. Use > to go to NV RAM access. Set abs-m level to 0. Set abs-p level to 0. Press stop to exit.

This will resolve your issue. If still not resolved then try the above procedure by restarting it once.

E000000-0000

E000 to E004 are all to do with the fixing unit.
It can be reset.
It has been known to be caused by noise on the mains supply so a filter might keep it away.
To reset. Press the star button followed by 2 and 8 at the same time, then the star button again.
You should now be in service mode.
Select COPIER and this will give you some options along the top.
Select FUNCTION.In the list select CLEAR.
From the next list select ERROR and press ok.
Then switch off machine and back on at the power socket.
If it clears then all is ok.
Be warned!! Do not try to change any settings in service mode or clear any other function!! It is very easy to turn the machine into a cabbage.

When you switch it on the red led will light up but within 10 seconds it will flash and then a message on the screen will come on to tell you to reset then tell you "in service".
This will repeat itself forever to frustrate you no end but I have stumbled onto tricking it into working, ie get the led on without progressing to flash. Try switching it on and as soon the led comes on, switch it off, do this a few times, then leave the switch on and voila it might stay on like it did for me.
Just now I have ran it for an hour, switch it off then after 30 seconds turn it back on and it stays on.
I thick the reset button is all bull. Let me know how it all went or am I all bull for your NV-DS38.

Your printer requires servicing. This is factory set and alerts you when the service time is here. you can bypass this by

1.) unplug the printer
2.) hold the power button down(DO NOT RELEASE UNTIL I TELL YOU TOO)

3.) Plug the printer back in the led will be green
4.) Press the resetpaper feed button
5.) the light will be red / orange now
6.) press the paper feed button again
7.) the light will be green now
8.) release the power button.

That should work..

Unless the carriage unit is stuck in which case you can eighter take it to a canon dealer to replace it or buy a new one, which ever is more feasible and cheaper.

I can tell you how to change it but that will leave you with the problem of getting the necessary parts and actually putting it back togeter and it actually working propperly since speaciality tools is needed in alinging back the feeder.

You need to know in which position was camera turned of.
So try turning it on in RECORD OR PLAY position.
It will work then...

E000001-0002 refers to the fuser assy either getting to hot or not hot enough. Fuser error codes cannot be reset by power cycling the machine even though that is what the display tells you to do. In order to reset the fuser error code you must enter the service mode & reset the code. To enter the service mode: press"Additional Functions" button (looks like a picture of a head with a star inside) press the #2 and #8 at the same time (simultaneousley) press "additional functions" again The display should show a choice of copier,feeder,sorter,fax,or board service modes Select copier select clear select ERR press OK Turn power off & back on. ****IMPORTANT**** After clearing error stay at the machine to see if it comes to ready. The fuser assy can reach 139 degrees C.(Water boils @ 100C) The error can only be cleared through the service mode because a technician should inspect the fuser to verify there is nothing faulty that could possibly start a fire. If you enter the service mode & clear the error, power cycle the machine & during warm up the machine throws a code again- turn it off, unplug it & call a tech for fuser repair. Good Luck!!
