Here are the instruction for installing the QX3 (or QX3+) Microscope with Windows 7. You must be using a 32-BIT VERSION. The QX3 is not compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Vista.

Note, DO NOT use the software from the CD that came with the microscope.
DO NOT plug in the QX3 microscope until Step 4.

Before you run the programs below, right click the icon, click on "Properties", click the "Compatibility" tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then choose in the drop-down box "Windows 98 / Windows ME". You should also check "Run as Administrator" if your account is a "Standard user".

Step 1. Download and install the QX3PLUS.EXE software from Intel:
http://tinyurl.com/qx3plus
or
http://downloadcenter.intel.com /Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=160&DwnldID=4419& amp;strOSs=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems?=eng

Step 2. Download and install the QCODINSTL.EXE software from:

http://tinyurl.com/QCODINSTL or
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?strState=LIVE&ProductID=160&DwnldID=2089&agr=N&lang=eng&PrdMap=160

Step 3. Download and extract the QX3 Drivers from:
http://tinyurl.com/IntelQX3driverXP or
http://hyperslug.s3.amazonaws.com/IntelQX3driverXP.zip

Step 4. Now, plug in the microscope.
When the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears you will see a message saying that the driver installation was not successful. Click the Close box. You need to install the driver manually by following these steps:
a. Click START - Select Devices & Printers
b. Right-click on the Intel QX3 Icon and select Properties
c. Click the Hardware tab - click Properties
d. Click Update Driver - select "Browse my computer for driver software"
e. Browse to the folder with the extracted QX3 drivers from Step 3. above. The driver software should install successfully.

Double-click on the QX3+ icon on the desktop and the program should run.

I can't install QX3PLUS.EXE software on 32-bit win 7. I would like to share my good experience on this as my thanks to this comment's author.
As a workaround, you would try to install a windows xp on your computer and then only just install QX3PLUS.EXE. all go well. My kid will begin to have a tour with this old toy.

This is kind of roundabout and techy but works really well and is useful for other things. You should expect to spend about 4 hours to solve this in this way.

  1. Install Oracle Virtual Box software. It provides a shell for any other operating system you want to run.
  2. Locate your old XP or VISTA install CD - the one with the long key on the label.
  3. Start Virtual Box and create a partition for your XP or VISTA. Install it and accept updates after installation. I install anti-virus software too. I install the guest additions too.
  4. Install your QX3 software. There are tricky ways to get Virtual Box to recognize your CD drive. Look in the sub menus.

I run Linux on my Windows 7 system this way and I run XP on my Mac this way. The main drawback is that when it runs it draws RAM from your primary system. From XP point of view, the amount of RAM and hard disk space is a luxury.

Friends if you don't mind spending a little money to upgrade to windows 7 you can try this link: http://windowkeydownload.blogspot.kr/2016/05/how-to-get-windows-7-for-free.html. The key works 100% and its price is cheap. More importantly, you have no need to worry about the risk of virus.

The Intel QX3 is not compatible with 64 bit operating systems. It will not work. Sorry.

You can either reinstall Windows 7 as a 32-bit version or purchase a QX5 model which is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.
