I have just noticed the same thing on my 46" DLP. One spot appeared 2 weeks ago, today I have 2, so I went looking for answers and I found this site. I have the same problem with my Samsung 46" tv. First, they were just a few white spots and now 3-4 weeks later, there are too many to count. I have extended warranty. Me too. 56 inch DLP. 18 months old. One spot 10 days ago, now four. New ones with increasing frequency. No extended warranty. Any ideas? Same here. We have a 46 inch Samsung DLP. Our other TV's have lasted over 15 years, This one is less than 2 years old. The technical service dept is of no help. Too many white dots to count. I too have the same problem. I called samsung and got a part number out of them. BP41-00289A I have searched for this part but cannot find it on line any were. My 46" dlp is only 18 months new but now is painful to watch with the white dots. I replaced it with a 50 plasma (panasonic) and bought an extended warranty. I will not buy another samsung product. If they happen to own up to their dmv defect and repair the mdm board I will lift my samsung boycott but till then I will steer anyone away from their products. ARRRRGH! I have the same problem. 56 DLP Samsung (720p) TV is only 2 years old! White and black dots all over and getting worse! I found a sight, though, that has parts for our TV's: www.samsungparts.com About $250 for DMD board. I may role the dice and order it and see if it fixes it. Too bad. I really like the TV, and can't beat the price, size and picture compared to LCD's or Plazma's. Oh well, ordered another one (1080p) but this time I bought the extended warranty.

I will post another message in a month and let you know how many more spots develop The cost of the repair on my less than 3 year old TV is going to be over 1/3 of the price I paid when NEW! I also have the same problem with my hardly 2 year old samsung 50 inch DLP. I plan to go to the store and see what my options are....if they know this is such a problem, then there needs to be some type of recall. Maybe if everyone writes a letter? I have the same problem with my Samsung DLP model: HL S5086W. White spots are growing in numbers...It looks like a pretty common problem with Samsung DLP TV's. I just bought this TV 2 years ago...it seem's like we got ripped by Samsung. They should Recall these TV's or Fix it for free since it's a Known Issue. Wow, this is disappointing to see so many people with the same problem. I have a 60-something inch Samsung DLP TV we got about 18 months ago. I noticed one white spot, then a second, and immediately a third. Gosh, $900 or so to fix it...I think we paid $1500 for the whole thing. I read all the reviews on CNET but they were all worthless I guess, none said anything about this. The TV is basically junk. What a shame. Wow, it's still so new! Folks, I am in the same boat. I have 3 white spots as of now. I have been trying to reserahc this and am finding all sort so details about DMD boards, and chips etc. I would like to repair myself but have yet found a solid answer as to what part I need and how to install. I have a HL-4266W.

I started having the white dots and it progressed to my tv shutting off and on all by itself, They wanted 650.00 to fix it but I said no I paid the 50.00 service fee and they told me it was the dmd board. They first thought it was the digital processor. Man the tv had a great picture to ! I feel really bad because I swore by samsung. Worked for Best Buy 13 years and made alot of money for there company by selling them also recomended them even off work. Oh well I will go to town on mine with a solder iron . I will post my findings. Frustrating that Samsung will not do anything to fix this problem. Also I bought my tv from Circuit City and these dots showed up right after they went out of business. Go figure.

Numerous white spots on Smasung DLP TV model hls4674s. I now have about 12 full time spots and a couple more blinking. This tv is just over two years old. Same issue here. White spots showing up and either staying or flickering. My TV is about 3.5 years old. I have the LE40..whatever model, it's just over 2 years old. Some white dots appeared one day about 2 months ago, now I have about 100 at times. If I leave the input cables disconnected and let the 'no input detected' banner show, it slowly moves down the screen pixel by pixel as expected, however amazingly the white dots move too in step with the banner! So I think this rules out any chance of the problem being related to dead pixels, and I believe that it is more to do with the driver circuitry or some sort of frame buffer. Someone mentioned static buildup, tonight I will try a damp cloth on the screen to try to ground any surface charge on the screen to see if that makes any difference. I will also try leaving the set disconnected from the mains for 24 hours.

I googled the white spot problem and cannot believe how many owners have the same problem. Shouldn't there be a recall? I'm going to call Samsung and see what the problem is. I have the exact same problem and mine is 18 months old. For $1900, which included all the 'special cables' that Circuit City said I had to have, this has really been disappointing. This unit came with good reviews but after reading all the other posts, I am in agreement that Samsung needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing.

almost 2 years 2 the date of purchase my 46" DLP Samsung developed the white spot syndrome. Luckily I have an extended warranty. When the Bestbuy tech came by today, we were told he would have to order a a a a new engine, and he isn't sure that they are still available. Seems like there is material here for a class action on product defect grounds. My tv is the same age and is having the same problem and Samsung is acting like they'd never heard of the problem. Just got off of phone with samsung and after being told it was out of warranty and I would have to pay for a nearby service center to fix it I quickly went on a "little rant" about product deficiency and about how many "thousands" of people there are with this same issue I would like to be put in contact with someone to file a formal complaint. I was put on hold for about 30seconds and then the same guy came back on the phone and told me they would offer a one time free replacement of the DMD chip and all subsequent charges and a technician would be in contact with me within 48hrs to set up a time to come by and fix it. However, if it's not the DMD chip I would be responsible for the labor charges of the technician. Looks like it only took 4 or 5 years of people pestering samsung for them to finally cave on the issue. December 5, 2012 Have a series 7 750 DLP set purchased in 2008. After reading hundreds of similar "white dot" issues with Samsung DLP sets, attempted to get problem fixed through Samsung Support. As hundreds of others have found, the answer is "your set isn't covered." I was able to obtain information them that the DMD chip in question, made by Texas Instruments, was brought up in litigation in 2006, and hence units made with that one were replaced. Samsung CONTINUED to use Texas Instruments DMD chip and they continue to that the exact same problem as the chips before. But since it is "technically" not the litigated part, they are not honoring any forms of repair for their customers. Amazingly bad business practice, and possible subject to civil claims if enough people complain. As I told them, their failure to correct their less than $100 mistake results in consumers like me buying from their competitors and convincing everyone I know to do similar. All of these videos I watched on youtube showing how to replace a chip for the white and black dots on the screen are incorrect as they call it the DPL (digital lighting process) chip. What it is, is a DMD (digital micromirror device) chip. That is fact that came from Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba. I just got off of the phone with all three today April 21, 2014. Get it right guys and girls !!!
