Laptop starting issue

Hello,

I have an IBM Think pad (T 60). I spilled some water on my laptop a few days back and now it works intermittently. I have tried drying it with a dryer and looks like it is completely dry now but I still get the intermittent starting issue.

Your help would be appreciated.

Did you spill the water while you were using it or turn it on shortly after the spill? If so, you fried something. It's electronic, it doesn't mix with liquid at all, you're lucky you don't have a nice expensive door stop, use a bottle with a screw on cap if you absolutely have to have a drink while working with your laptop. Also it takes days, if not a week, for a laptop to completely dry out inside, a dryer isn't going to do much good unless you take it apart. Either deal with the issues or take it to a shop and have it diagnosed. It's going to be a hardware issue consisting of the motherboard.

Hello so I spilled water on my laptop the other night however I took the power out and I turned it upside down and drained the water out In the morning when I went to start it it turned on for a sec then...

Hi,

It would have been better to leave the computer sit for few days without Turning it ON.
It is possible that the laptop wasn't completely dry and that would have resulted in a short circuit of some part/component inside the laptop.
Try taking out the battery (unplug the power cord too) and try turning it ON again in few days.
If nothing works you need to get the system serviced/checked by a Tech.

Let me know what happens
Thanks.

Hello, this is Mike. I'm sorry to tell you that despite being having dried up the water you spilled more than likely left mineral deposits on the circuits in your mouse which cause it to short out and not function. If you are using an external USB mouse I recommend replacing it. If it was the touch pad on the laptop itself I must recommend you attempt to use your warrantee to have it replace or if it has expired I suggest you bring your laptop to a certified technician and have it repaired. I hope this helped you.

reinstall the OS, but first back up you files. you can remove the HDD located at the bottom of the Laptop. buy a cheap 2.5 inch usb to ide/sata enclosure and place your hdd on it. use a PC to transfer your files. then format the HDD. reinstall the HDD to your laptop and install the OS.

Water spill on laptop

Shut it down, unplug the battery. The water is shorting out some of the circuits and leaving it on may cause more damage. Put it in a dry environment for a couple of days, you can also try a hair dryer (be careful not to get it too hot) to speed the drying process but the water is inside so it will be hard dry. A small room with a dehumidifier going would be great. With time it will evaporate and if you are lucky none of the components will be damaged.

Contact IBM service for repairs, I recommend you let someone else do the repairs.

Might not be worth it. You be the judge.

Mother board problem

Can you describe the display problem that you refer to? While it is possible that the motherboard is the problem, without knowing details of the problem it is hard to say how to fix it.
