After a power outage the ice maker stopped working. It will turn on make one set of ice and then the ice melts. The service man has replaced the relay to start the compressor. It does start up but then does not stay on all the time. He now wants to replace the compressor. Is this correct? The machine is 1 !/2 years old.

Tell him to first fill ref-regent gas in compressor cause if does not have enough the comp will over heat a cut of .

  • jgcfamily Jun 06, 2018

That makes sense, except --shouldn't the overheat relay kick back on once the compressor cools down? Mine stays off for days/ weeks. If I open and close the door it'll run for a few seconds, or jiggle it. (No door switch on this model.) Ice maker arms are in correct 12 o'clock position. Cheapest trial and error fix is the thermostat I suppose - otherwise maybe a contact in the icemaker mechanism is not showing the arms have rotated back to 12 and "ready to start again" maybe. Need the technician to troubleshoot - but it had been turned off at the switch for several months and worked great when we turned it on while he was here. Only to all melt / shut down 2 weeks later. And since. Sheesh.

I have much the same issue. In your case I doubt a 1 1/2 year old ULIne has a compressor issue. If it has a door switch make sure that isn't the culprit! My unit does not have a door switch and is about 10 years old. It freezes and makes ice great for about two weeks then it will shut off completely, all the ice will melt. It stays off and won't run until I turn the switch off for a while, then it may work again for a while. The repair expert that came out to look at it was completely nonplussed since it was working perfectly while he was there (of course). He now thinks it's the thermostat ( not instructing the unit to kick back on ) and is going to replace that, we'll see...

hopefully he fixed it by know

Update - The temperature control switch on Uline ice makers temporarily shuts off the compressor when ice is being dumped and the tray refilling. Costs about $39 and is made with cheap contacts inside that easily carbon up, causing the ice maker to intermittently stop running, so it makes ice then the ice melts. Replaced that, Solved my issue of intermittent shut off.

I would suspect that the solenoid valve might need replacing.

SOURCE: GE Monogram Ice Maker ZDI15 makes an ice sheet but does not drop or melt the sheet into cubes.

Below is a couple og links. One is for the user manual and the other is for parts should. Sounds to me the cutting grid is not getting hot and cutting the ice into cubes. PDF below, click link

http://imgs.ebuild.com/xCat/ebuildWebB/15?ObjectID=1105&Variant=Original

For parts or free answers go to this link and enter your model number into the search feature. Model ZD115C That will take you to a page with pictures and part numbers. The home page you may call or email for answeres. I did see a control board and for some reason the cutter is not heating this will cause the problem. Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Ice maker (Uline) just stopped working, not freezing, no noise.

U-line does make compressors as long as its not a r12 system. As far as the icemachine turn breaker off for a couple of min then try it. If same results then it could be a board.

SOURCE: Our freezer is not cold, food is defrosting, ice

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently

Westinghouse ice maker quit working

Is it your ice maker, or possible the blades that crush the ice or dispense the cubes? What can happen in the latter case is that during the storm the ice melted and pooled in the cutter mechanism. Then, when power was restored, the blades were frozen solid. To fix, investigate taking out the cutter mechanism and letting it thaw and drain. Then reinstall and use frequently for the first few days to prevent refereezimg.

Ice maker stopped making ice. I had to melt ice

Jim, you will need to replace the heating element and most likely once this has been replaced, your ice maker should work properly unless the ice broke another part on your ice maker.

I would start with the heating element first.

Just contact us at:

http://www.fixya.com/repair/d499389-accurate_appliance_repair_service with your model number and we will get the correct part out to you asap!
We look forward to getting your ice maker working properly again soon!

Fridigaire side by side ice maker not dispensing

The auger does not have the strength to do it's job when a lot of ice is in the way. You can defrost the icemaker with a blow dryer. It will be messy so be ready with lots of towels or a mop.

Once the unit is dry, spray the auger with PAM or some similar cooking spray. Then let it recycle.

You can temporarily prevent more fresh water from entering the ice maker by simply moving the wire arm to the up position

Fridigaire side by side ice maker not dispensing

I just fixed my daughter's frig with the same problem. The gear of both the box and the ice holder got water in the gear box and froze. This did not allow the gears to mesh and turn the auger. Clean the ice from both sides of the gears and try it. Works great now.

Automatic ice maker quite working after 7 day power outage

Check to see if the power cable is ok. If your unit has a fuse, you may need to replace that. Looks like the power outage might have fuzzed up the power circitry. If neither of the above works, then you may need to get the machine serviced.

Ice maker stopped after electric shutoff

You may have a problem with the computer control board in the ice maker.  Try this.  Turn off the icemaker for about 2 minutes.
Turn on the ice maker and press the clear button.  Press and hold this button for 12 seconds to get it to force extract.  This will confirm that the motors will work and push the ice cubes out.  Afterwards, let it run by itself.  If it still doesn't make ice, you will need to replace the icemaker.
