My lg lcd tv has a usb port but only recognises photo and music. I would like to be able to play movies using the usb.Is this possible and if so how??

I'm trying to play movies from my USB port, but when I plug it I can't .... My LG 47" TV will recognize and open the flash drive, but shows empty.

Nope, you certainly can't. The TV can only show still photos or play music. It's not capable of playing videos.

First ya need the Android TV web browser App either on your TV or download from http://play.google.com/store to your TV (Some how) and then browse http://play.google.com/store to find and download the Correct Android TV MOVIE App;
To play Movie files IE: .mov, .wmv, .avi...
Might need to try a few to get the right one :(

That's not possible as the TV would need software to decode and play the video. That model of LG TV isn't listed as being a "smart" tv that can play video files. You may have to look into a separate box that can play movie files like a Roku or an AppleTV

That is because the USB port is for servicing only and not for Video and audio.

Unfortunately the LG 22LD350 only has the capability to read music (MP3) and photos (JPG). To play movie files, you will have to use another device.
Examples of other devices:

• Boxee Box - http://www.dlink.com/boxee/
• Apple TV - http://www.apple.com/appletv/
• Desktop/Nettop computer with Boxee/Windows Media Center/XBMC installed
