Replaced relay and got buzzing sound but still no compressor. Tapped on compressor and finally came on. Ran for 2 hours and frig cooled before i turned it off.It was hot as fire. tried to turn it back on but could not. This frig is 2005 almost never used smells like new. Could i have a bad relay still or thermostat.

If the relay was faulty, the compressor would not start when cold. To test the relay put a continuity meter in the 2 pins for common and start. there should be no reading. Turn it upside down there should be continuity. If there is a capacitor attached to the relay as well, change it as it may be failing. Apart from these, check all else is working ok, particularly the condenser fan and gas level. if all else is ok, the compressor is overheating and siezing and will need replacing.
I have been doing refrigeration for over 30 years and I have never seen a compressor with a chip inside of it. Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils? I almost sounds like you have a weak start capacitor. Let me know if i can help you any futher.
i would replace the relay ( if taping started it it's bad ) clean the coils and make sure the fan is cooling compressor and do replace the cardboard back this controls air flow .. thanks for using fix ya mm.
That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while. Sound's like the start relay overload on the compressor if you hear a humming and a click do not leave plugged in get new relay/overload at you local part store or the compressor winding will burn up and a new frig will occur message me if this is the sound and inconsistent cooling temp b4 you heard the buzzing and click take you model # to the parts store an easier repair which is good....
Sure sounds like a PTC relay bad. Take the relay off and shake it to see if you can hear a rattling sound.
The clicking sound is a relay called PTC relay. You need to replace it.
First be sure to unplug frig. Remove the cardboard cover that covers
most backs of the frig units. Remove the plastic cover that is on the
side of compressor. It is held on with a metal clip. Now you should be
able to see the relay pry the relay straight off. note the wiring
and position of relay. Only three prongs on compressor. Go to a parts
house for appliance's and with your make and model number should be
able to get a new one. Let me know if you need any more help. ken
get a 3 and 1 relay that will help boost the start windings on the compresor and help it start-up. get the one for 1/2 hp and you shoiuld be good to go.
The grommet simply holds the start relay in place. Unless it is torn, you won't need it. Likely the start relay. The buzzing is possibly the relay contacts on the start relay burning if the problem occurs when the compressor starts...although it could be the compressor making noise as well. You might try to "hear it out". The start relay gives a boost to the compressor by adding in another winding inside to 'kick' the compressor.
If all you hear is the buzz, you might just wait a bit to see what fails!
