Dirty coils underneath the fridge, or the fan in the bottom (to cool the compressor) is not working.

SOURCE: my side by side kenmore refrigerator, freezer isnt freezing

in the back of the freezer there is an "evaporator coil" .. that has many fine fins and is used to cool the air .. you dont normally see it because there is a panel bolted over it ... if the door was left ajar for awhile then ice forms on the evaporator and stops air from flowing thru it ... the result is that it cant cool the freezer properly ... if this is the problem then you can fix it by taking everything out ( use an insulated tote to store things or use a neighbors frig overnight .... turn your refrigerator off or unplug it ... open both doors and let it thaw out for a day or overnight ... put down towells to collect the melting ice .. you can even blow warm air into the bottom of the freezer to make it thaw faster but be careful not to overheat plastic parts .. once the unit is completely free of internal ice then it should start to work again like new ..

Ge bottom freezer not freezing

Check to see that the evaporator is not covered with layer of ice. The latter serves as an insulator and prevents freezer temps from going down to about zero degrees. If the defrost heater/timer is defective that will certainly be a cause. Since the freezer air is not cold enough to freeze, then the refrigerator temps are also high. Using a digital thermometer will confirm this.

Leaking door gaskets can also be responsible for higher internal temps

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

Freezer compartment of refrigerator not freezing

First, I think it’s important to know that the Ref side has no cooling coils, it’s basically a box and the cold air in the freezer is blown over by a fan through a channel into the Ref side. This channel has a door which regulates how much cold air goes through. You probably have two control knobs in the Ref side, one controls the temp with numbers 1-9, 9 being the coldest. This temp control tells the compressor how long to run. The other control is for that little door and it may have letters A-E, E being the coldest. If you set it on E (coldest) then this will close that little door and keep most the cold air in the freezer.
So, how can the Ref side be cold and the freezer side not freezing?

1. Coolant leak. There is enough coolant to keep the Ref side cool but not enough to freeze on the freezer side.

2. Defrost system failure. The coils on the freezer side are clogged with ice and it's just a matter of time when the Ref side won't cool either. The back wall in the freezer will be covered with ice/frost
