I have a Simplicity Heavy Duty Performer S110 that I haven't used in about a year. I pulled it out of the closet to hem some pants. The plastic lever that raises the presser foot no longer works. I can't get the lever to budge at all. Tried oiling it and still nothing. Everything else works fine. I'm afraid to put too much pressure on the lever since it's plastic and seems like if I push too much it will break off. Do you have any suggestions before I drag it down to the repair shop? You lever doesn't work because the presser foot Bar is seized from lack of use.Open the side of the machine to access the bar. Put a mixture of water and ammonia ( about 80%water 20% ammonia) on the top and bottom of the bar. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then try to move the presser foot Up by lifting the foot with a screw driver. Do not pry so hard you break something. It should get progressively easy the more times you do this. Put some sewing machine oil on the top and bottom of the shaft and it should be good to go.

I have tried this, but it still won't budge. I don't want to break it, but should I apply force to the top of the bar with a small craft hammer? This is a Singer 1725. Thanks for any help!

I fixed my machine. The plastic lever that raises the presser foot no longer worked. I couldn't get the lever to budge at all. the presserfoot was in the down position. Then I put singer sewing machine oil on the shaft of the presser foot, still nothing. I waited a minute then used a flat head screwdriver to pry the presserfoot up and it slowly moved! I kept working it and rubbing the oil on the shaft of the presserfoot. My friend told me never to use any other oil except sewing machine oil. after a few minutes the presser foot moved like when it was new! The lever moves that foot easily again!! I then oiled the rest of the moving parts with the oil according to the manual instructions. The book says oil your machine once a year if your using it or not. My machine was 6 years old and had never been oiled. My bad. Glad my friend told me about this. I didnt believe oil would budge that presser foot. It was totally frozen up. Hope this will save someone a trip and the expense of taking their machine to the repair shop.
