Presser foot lever stuck

I have a Simplicity Heavy Duty Performer S110 that I haven't used in about a year. I pulled it out of the closet to hem some pants. The plastic lever that raises the presser foot no longer works. I can't get the lever to budge at all. Tried oiling it and still nothing. Everything else works fine. I'm afraid to put too much pressure on the lever since it's plastic and seems like if I push too much it will break off. Do you have any suggestions before I drag it down to the repair shop? Thank you!! Yes I have the same problem. Cant raise the foot so i cant get the plate out either.

I fixed my machine. The plastic lever that raises the presser foot no longer worked. I couldn't get the lever to budge at all. the presserfoot was in the down position. Then I put singer sewing machine oil on the shaft of the presser foot, still nothing. I waited a minute then used a flat head screwdriver to pry the presserfoot up and it slowly moved! I kept working it and rubbing the oil on the shaft of the presserfoot. My friend told me never to use any other oil except sewing machine oil. after a few minutes the presser foot moved like when it was new! The lever moves that foot easily again!! I then oiled the rest of the moving parts with the oil according to the manual instructions. The book says oil your machine once a year if your using it or not. My machine was 6 years old and had never been oiled. My bad. Glad my friend told me about this. I didnt believe oil would budge that presser foot. It was totally frozen up. Hope this will save someone a trip and the expense of taking their machine to the repair shop.

You lever doesn't work because the presser foot Bar is seized from lack of use.Open the side of the machine to access the bar. Put a mixture of water and ammonia ( about 80%water 20% ammonia) on the top and bottom of the bar. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then try to move the presser foot Up by lifting the foot with a screw driver. Do not pry so hard you break something. It should get progressively easy the more times you do this. Put some sewing machine oil on the top and bottom of the shaft and it should be good to go.

I have tried this, but it still won't budge. I don't want to break it, but should I apply force to the top of the bar with a small craft hammer? This is a Singer 1725. Thanks for any help!

How do i create a rolled hem using my Platinum 750?? Do i need a special presser foot?

by rolled hem I imagine that you are trying to put something like rope in the hem to make a round edge
You can buy a 1/2 foot that allows the needle to get close to what ever is making the roll
see your local sewing machine shop

I need help with hemming and placing button holes in daygown.

Hi:

You can easily trim a hem down a bit before actually hemming it up. Many patterns allow for a lot longer hem than you will ever use, but that also allows for people both for adult and childrens patterns that may need the extra length. Often if you know the length you will need before you cut the pattern you can make the adjustments before you cut the pattern. As to putting a button hole in a hem, I have done so, especially on an adults outfit where the hem will never likely need to be let down. Sometimes on a childs pattern, putting the button hole in a hem means you can not let the hem down, and as I learned with my youngest two kids, who went through growth spirts twice a year and could easily grow 3 inches in less than 3 weeks during this time, I did not want to limit my options so I never put a button home or any trim through a hem line that might limit my ability to lengthen a newly made outfit.

Hope that was helpful to you.

I have a brother LS2125i it is easy to use, and I am a complete novice- but when I try to sew heavy denim- Like over the thickest part of the hem it makes a very load click nose- and becomes stuck--- is...

It may be the machine, although most machines would have trouble going over the seam. First, use a Denim needle, 90 or 100 and place a "shim" also called a "jean a majig" to keep the presser foot level. If the foot is shifted, the machine will not sew over the bulk. The machine is not real heavy duty, may have problems , anyway.

How do you thread the machine, top and bottom, please.

From the Simplicity Sew Precious Model SWSP2 manual:

Inserting a new bobbin:
  1. Place wound bobbin into the bobbin case.
  2. Pull about 6 inches of thread out from the bobbin.
NOTE: Be sure that the bobbin rotates COUNTER-CLOCKWISE when thread is pulled.
  1. Pass the thread from the bobbin, under the bobbin case spring, and toward the back of the machine.
  2. Slide bobbin cover back into position.

Upper threading:
  1. Turn the handwheel toward you to raise the take-up lever to its highest position.
  2. Lower the presser foot.
  3. Place a spool of thread and spool cap on the spool pin.
  4. Place the thread into the first thread guide at the top of the machine.
  5. Bring the thread down the right slot of the threading path, then around the tension dial. Push the thread tension release lever and pull the thread up so the thread is secure in the thread tension dial.
  6. Bring the thread up the left slot of the threading path and through the take-up lever from right to left.
  7. Bring the thread back down the left slot of the threading path and into the needle eye from front to back. (Clip the thread end with sharp scissors fro easier needle threading.)

Raising the bobbin thread
  1. Make sure the presser foot lever is raised.
  2. Hold the end of the needle thread with your left hand. Turn the hand wheel toward you with your right hand until the needle goes down once and comes back up, stopping when the needle is at its highest position.
  3. Gently pull up on the needle thread. The bobbin thread, looped around the needle thread, will be drawn up through the needle hole.
  4. Push the thread tension release lever and pull about six inches of both the upper and lower threads toward the back of the machine, placing them under the presser foot.
