Magic Chef MCWC30MCG not getting cold?

HI......I have a wine cooler: Magic Chef MCWC30MCG, and it is not getting cold anymore. I can hear a 'click' sound every few minutes, but the normal compresor sound never comes on. The compresor tank (large black tank under the unit?) is hot to the touch. What can I do?

Thanks.

    Hi:

I see the sticker on the back says rated current 1.6a and it is air cooled.

I have the same wine cooler and just started having the same problem. Not cooling and clicking sound. Is it fixable or not worth it?

Hi, I have the same problem with mine. Any solutions before I toss it out and get a new one. Is it even worth fixing??? Thanks

Same issue. Compressor is hot, kicking out at restart, and won't cool. Same question...is it worth trying to repair or is new unit appropriate?

Unit is four years old and I can't seem to find another like it as I have built the unit in and have size constraints for the replacement.

Mine just stopped working this weekend. Has the same clicking sound and compressor very hot to the touch. I bought this unit at home depot three years ago.

  • julereed Sep 20, 2008

I have the exact problem as listed - It has stopped working(cooling), the black compressor is HOT, and there's a clicking noise. I did unplug it over night and then plugged it again in the morning and without success. This unit is only 2 yrs old - and I received it as a gift. I'm SO disappointed! and will never purchase another Magic Chef product.

I just had the same problem. And I bought at the Home Depot 3 years ago. What is the solution here.?

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2008

We have the same problem, sadly enough ours died two days after we built our bar around it and then just made the clicking noise and...nothing. We are going to try the whirlpool number, but we can't find the receipt since it is 3 years old and we just moved into a new house. Bummer!

Oh, I forgot to add below...We also bought the unit about 3 years ago at Home Depot! Hummmm...I am seeing a pattern here.

You need to replace the Ptc unit attached to the compressor. Go to REPAIR CLINIC.COM and order the following part. 1206838 Ptc relay. They also will show you were it is located and how to replace it. Compressor tanks very rarely go bad. It is an $11.00 dollar part

Go to Repairclinic.com and order part# 6R8MG. It is a start relay that works in conjunction with the compressor. Cost of part is about $20. It takes just a minute to replace.

The problem is the PTC Starter I disconected on the compressor and disassemble clean it and put them back together I researching were I can find the part, also I going to call Magic Chef to see I can get the part from them.

Please be sure you unplug the power before you do any repair on the Wine Cellar.

Replace PTC Starter and that is it. You can also try to open and clean contacts, I did and it worked.

I have a magic chef wine cooler model mcwc16mcg justs keeping clicking not cold anymore , can this be fixed

A clicking sound every few minutes usually means the compressor is going off on overload when trying to start. This could mean the start parts are bad, or the compressor went bad.
