EMachines model ET1831. After running a period of time, up to 40 minutes, the computer instantly shuts down and must rebooted from a cold stop.. It seems to be heat related as the longer I wait to restart, the longer the operating time before it stops again. There is a very faint "click" each time it stops. The processor and power-supply fans are operating.

Try booting it to safe mode and see if it does it there. If it doesn't it seems like it could be software related, if it does do it there it is probably hardware

SOURCE: Emachine T6216 Automatically Shuts down

Hi MIchael,

Before I start replacing hardware, I would boot to safemode, and let it run that way to see of the problem repeats. In Safemode, a lot of drivers and software that may be causing the problem won't start up.

As soon as your start your machine, tap the F8 key about twice a second. This should bring up a screen with several options. Select Safemode. You will get some warning, so just click yes on those. Your screen will look really strange, since your video drivers won't install. Let it run like that for a few hours. BTW, you won't have internet.
If that still reboots, or shuts down, chance are good it a hardware issue. Might be your Heatsink on the cpu is too dirty to cool, but the techs you took it to should have cleaned that.
Get back with us, and post how that works please.
You can also right click on My Computer>Manage>Event Viewer and look thru the different catagories. Look for issues with red marks on them. To read them, just click on them. This may give you idea what is failing.
A issues that is random is hard to troubleshoot.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Emachines , shutting off on it's own?

While it is possible the power supply could be going bad, usually it would not work intermittently like this.

Most likely the motherboard is starting to go bad, I would do a quick visual inspection for any buldging or leaking capacitors, if you see any that is definatly what is causing the problem.

If you dont see any damage to the motherboard you can try replacing the power supply, if it still behaves this way then your motherboard is the problem (sometimes there are no visible signs of damage on e-machine motherboards even when they have completly fried)

Hope this helps :)

Sounds like your overloading the power supply or overheating the CPU make sure your fans are all working, if not fix them before you fry everything.

SOURCE: I have a ET1831 and after about 30 minutes the

It could be a Power Supply issue or Hot chip condition on the motherboard due to lack of Air Flow for cooling or a problem with the motherboard. The first things I would check for are a Virus and Air Flow. There are a couple of Viruses out there that will do this. Get a can of compressed air and open the case and clear all the air channels and blow the dust out of it. With the case open turn the computer on and make sure the Cooling fan on the CPU works and the fan in the Power supply is working. If the CPU fan is not working replace it. Same with the the power supply fan, you would have to replace the complete power supply if that one is faulty. If your Video card has a fan on it make sure that is working as well. You maybe able to replace that fan if it's not but you may have to replace the video card if it isn't working. That would present you with a situation that the Video shuts down but the rest of the computer stays running. You will also want to check your power saver options and make sure you don't have them set to shut the computer down on time. I use screen savers and Hibernate settings to protect the screen from burn in but rarely actually shut down my computers.

Need a dual layer dvd burner for desktop emachines ET1831-03

What is special about this machine or its DVD drive?
Check the power supply and data connectors. That is probably all you need to know. Check Newegg.com
e.g.
Home Computer Hardware CD DVD Blu Ray Burners Media CD DVD Burners...
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007589%20600003509%20600003655&IsNodeId=1&srchInDesc=dual-layer&name=12X&ActiveSearchResult=True

The DVD+R DL designation is possibly what you want.

My emachine ET1831-03 crashed a few months ago. All I can get it to do is display the windows boot manager screen. It says windows failed to start, and gives me status: 0xc000000f NLS data is missing,...

Power off the computer, then restart it. As soon as you see the eMachines logo appear on the monitor screen, press the "left-Alt" and "F10" keys simultaneously. Wait a few seconds for the Windows boot screen to appear, then press the "Enter" key.

Click the "Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults" option after the eRecovery Management window appears. In the Notice window, read the warning that states all information on the drive will be lost, then click the "Next" button.

Click "Next" in the Restore Destination window, then click "OK" in the final confirmation window. The eRecovery Management utility formats your main system drive and reinstalls the original software that shipped with your computer. A progress bar notifies of you of the current progress of the recovery. The recovery utility may prompt you to restart your computer several times during the recovery process. Restart the computer when prompted. The computer reboots automatically after the recovery finishes and launches the Windows First Time Setup. The recovery takes between 10 minutes and one hour depending on which model eMachines computer you own.

Follow the onscreen prompts to customize and personalize the Windows installation on your eMachines computer. Log in to Windows with the username and password you choose during Windows Setup.

Yes because its unusable in its current state-- First try this right after you power on - start pressing the F8 key to get into the advanced startup options and choose "Last Known Good Configuration" if still no luck reboot and press F8 again and choose SAFE_MODE and do a System Restore to an earlier point in time when everything worked good

Hi

Thank you for your query

The sound issue could be down to several issues

Please try the following

1) Ensure that the speakers are plugged into the right port the port at the back of the Pc will be a light green colour and on closer inspection will have this symbol >))

2) If it is in the right port click on the following Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices. In here ensure that the volume is not muted

I believe 1 of these 2 should cure the problem

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank you again

Kenmore 800 dryer shuts down after running down to 40 minutes on the timer. When I restart it at that point it runs for about 30 seconds and shuts down. If I turn the timer back to 90 minutes it runs down...

Sounds like you may have a bad motor. If the motor is overheating it will shut down on its overload.

If its a shorted contact in the timer you could mark the spot where it stops and restart it again. It should stop exactly at that point.
