SOURCE: Problem C2 with AEG Lavamat 86741

Find the drain pump (on most front loaders, it's at the bottom of the machine at the front - often with an access hatch).

Open it up (you may want to tip the machine backwards and put a basin underneath to catch the water - and be prepared to close up again if the basin gets full before the machine is fully drained). Check that the pump impeller isn't jammed with a collection of old coins.

My next move would usually be to set the machine going in a part of the cycle where the drain pump is supposed to be running, and to give the impeller a quick flip with my fingertips (taking great care to avoid injury). If the pump doesn't run until you flick it, but then starts, this is a sure sign that you need to replace the pump motor - a quick, cheap and easy fix.

If the pump starts by itself, the the problem is more likely to be one of blocked hoses.

If the pump won't start at all, either by itself or when you flick the impeller, you need to check whether the pump is getting electricity. Do this by disconnecting the machine from the mains, connecting a voltmeter across the two terminals on the pump, then switching back on and selecting a bit of the cycle where the pump is meant to run. If you see mains voltage, then again you want to change the pump motor. If you don't, then check all the associated wiring before starting to look at the main timer. Disconnect the power before removing the voltmeter connections.

SOURCE: Lavamat 16820

The reason the machine is coming up with E20 when drying.
is that there is a blockage of fluff in the dryer air duct on the right hand side of the machine just below the fan unit.
the air that goes through this duct is heated and returns back to the tub to dry the clothes. because there is a blockage in this duct the fan pushes air up the pressure switch tubes and fools the machine in to thinking that there is too much water in the drum,
too remove this blockage you have to disconnect the power supply, remove the lid and remove the back panel, 4 screws at the bottom + 4 up top under the lid. plull the water pipe with the valve out of the way and pull back panel away.
you should now see the dryer condensor unit blocked up with fluff. remove this unit and clean with bottle brush.
replace and make sure hoses are done up tight. replace back panel and lid, try again on drying and things should be alot better, drying should be alot quicker as well.

Sounds like the main drum bearings have failed.
At this age , I don't think this is an economical repair to undertake.
Better to replace with a new one.

Water leaks (spewing) from sides of bottom of machine when it's filling up

The normal cause of leaking while it is filling is a leaking Inlet hose. Try pulling the washing machine away from the wall and watch the hoses as the machine fills. If it is leaking you can see which hose is leaking. You may either need new tighner clips or to replace the hoses depending on how bad they are leaking. Another possibility is the water pump inside the washing machine could be broken and spewing out water.
tip

AEG Electrolux Lavamat 50600 is not spinning here are a few work throughs

Download manual
First off that was a link to the online user manual. If this was the first time using the machine did you follow the recommended first time use procedure by following these steps:
Before using your machine for the first time
0 Slightly pull the detergent compartment out of the control panel.
0 Pour about 1 liter of water through the detergent compartment into the washing machine.
When this has been done the ?KO lock can function correctly.
0 Run a wash cycle without laundry (COTTONS 95, with half the amount of washing powder).
This removes any residues from the drum which may have been left during manufacture.

If you have used this prior to the problem occurring try this:
The issues for not spinning are numerous as to what may cause this and it appears to be a lot but most of it is rather simple :
If there is water in the drum you need to follow the pump out procedure and remove water in the drum. Then there may be a "Bend" in the inlet hose. If there is water reaching the drum this is the possible causes and simple to check:
Water is leaking out from under the washing machine.
Fabric softener is not added, compartment for fabric softener is filled with water.
Appliance does not spin, water in the drum.
Washing has not been spun sufficiently, there is water left in the drum.
Door cannot be opened.
The rinse water is cloudy.Possible cause
The inlet hose connection is not tight.
The inlet hose has a leak.
The drain pump cover is not tight.
Washing is caught in the door.
Suction cap in the fabric softener compartment is not correctly fitted or is blocked.
RINSE HOLD selected.
SOAKING program is terminated.
There is a "Bend" in the outlet hose.
Maximum pumping height (drain height 1 m from the position of the machine) is exceeded.
Drain pump is blocked.
The water drainage system is blocked.
The door is locked due to safety reasons
Probably caused by a washing powder with a high silicate content.
Troubleshooting these are the remedies:
Tighten the inlet hose connection.
Check the inlet hose and if necessary replace it.
Tighten cover by turning clockwise.
Abort the program, remove the washing caught in the door, start a new program.
Clean the detergent compartment, fit the suction cap on firmly.
Deselect RINSE HOLD.
Pump out water and set the main wash cycle as desired.
Eliminate the Bend ( it would not allow me to use the proper word here see manual.)
Please contact AEG Service Force Centre, it has a retro- kit available for pump heights above 1 m.
I would definitely try this as it appears to the reset procedure for this machine:
Switch off the machine and pull the plug out of the socket
I would say no less than 20 minutes
but do this while waiting further:
clean the drain pump.
Clean the blockage
Carrying out an emergency emptying
1 Warning! Isolate the washing machine from the main supply before the emergency emptying!
If the washing machine no longer pumps out the water an emergency emptying must be carried out.
Warning! The water, which flows out of the emergency emptying hose can be hot.
First allow the water to cool down before emergency emptying!
0 Put down a flat container to catch the water draining out.
0 Pull down the flap in the left corner of the base strip and remove it.
0 Release the emergency emptying hose from its holder.
0 Pull the emergency emptying hose out a little.
0 Place a container underneath to catch the water.
0 Release the plug of the emergency emptying hose by turning it anti-clockwise and pull it out.
The water will drain out. Depending on the amount of water, it may be necessary to empty the container catching the water several times.
To do this, temporarily close the emergency emptying hose again with the plug. When the water has drained out completely:
0 Push and twist the plug firmly back into the emergency emptying hose.
0 Push the emergency emptying hose back in a little and let it catch onto the holder.
0 Replace the flap in the base plate and close it. When the washing machine is completely empty, the ?KO lock can no longer function correctly. Therefore before the next wash pour in approx 1 liter of water (pour it in through the washing powder compartment)
steps to Clean the drain pump
1 Warning! Switch off the washing machine and pull the plug out of the socket before cleaning the drain pump!
0 First carry out an emergency emptying (see section "Carrying out an emergency emptying").
0 Place a towel on the floor in front of the cover of the drain pump. Surplus water may flow out. 0 Unscrew the cover of the drain pump by twisting it anti-clockwise and pull it out.
0 Remove any foreign bodies which maybe in the pump housing.
0 Check whether the impeller of the pump can be turned. (It is normal forthe pump to turn in steps.) If the impeller cannot be turned at all please contact your local AEG Service Force Center.
0 Replace the cover (insert the ridges on the cover into the guiding slots)and screw on tightly in a clockwise direction.
0 Close the emergency emptying hose, push it in and twist.
0 Close the flap. I sure hope this helps a few people especially the one who I posted this for initially. GOOD Luck! If none of these suggestions work then best to call AEG for servicing, I strongly believe that the Bend in the inlet hose or the drain pump most likely the culprit and or any one of the other issues may well resolve the spin malfunction as well as possibly the main computer may have been goofed due to a slight power surge which unplugging from electric and turning off water for 30 minutes is the basic reset procedure for most electronics ( not all ;but most) while working through these steps should not hurt a thing.

Hi
You have had a water overflow or leak which has triggered your flood switch. You need to disconnect the machine and pull it out. Throw plenty of towls on the floor and tilt machine back to empty the water from the base.
Hard to say where the overflow or leak is from. You need to reconnect machine while it is out of cabinet and run the machine to see if you can pin point a leak. Sometimes a burst drain hose.
Otherwise the front and side panels may need to be removed as the leak may be internal.
Other time a faulty PCB, faulty inlet solenoid which sticks or a faulty pressure switch or clogged pressure hose are the reasons for machine overflowing. Bad door seals can also cause machine to leak.
Therefore, there are a raft of items which can cause machine to overflow or leak.

Hi, My son has pulled an emergency emptying hose on aeg 16830. It became very loose. Is there any way of fixing it? Thanks, Nat

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

As long as the hose still has its 'bung' in the end and it's not ripped or torn so that water does not come out, I cannot see the fact that it is 'very loose' affecting anything. You would have to pull it to gain access to the bung in an 'emergency and drain whatever water was left in it anyway ;-0)
Clever lad. Put him on FixYa to give advice on 'emergency emptying' !

The machine isn't draining properly on the Normal cycle

those washers are common to get objects in the pumps : coins, trash and other objects etc.:pull the machine away from the wall then lean it back so you can access the pump through a hole in the bottom of the washer : a fillips head screw clamp holds the hose on to the bottom of the outer tube loosen the clamp pull the hose down slightly and reach in and pull out the plastic strainer empty it and then replace it and then return the hose and tighten the clamp then test for leaks
